Sony Imageworks Vancouver is seeking an Associate Video Editor!

We are seeking an Associate Video Editor to join our team and support various internal media services. In this role, you will work directly with internal clients, providing video editing, format conversion, graphics support, and managing the transfer and output of video materials across our facility’s data network. You’ll handle non-pipeline and one-off workflows, often under tight deadlines.

This position combines assembly-style editing with technical tasks such as asset transfer, digital file management, and collaboration with production services technicians. You may also be involved in photography and videography assignments. Typical projects include requests from production teams, internal presentations, marketing materials, artist demo reels, award submissions, shot builds, and conference presentations.

Experience with Linux, Python, and command line tools is a significant plus, but not required. 

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop visual content for internal company meetings and presentations.
  • Create still graphics for company invitations, presentations, and website content.
  • Provide photography and videography services as needed.
  • Produce short-form content for social media channels.
  • Conduct quality control checks on media assets prepared by senior editors.
  • Handle the import, export, and transcoding of media across various formats, frame rates, resolutions, and codecs for client delivery, reference, and presentations.
  • Organize and manage data, media, and project files within editorial storage.
  • Generate artist demo reels using a partially automated system.
  • Collaborate directly with management, leadership, production teams, and other employees.
  • Gain familiarity with animated projects and VFX editorial workflows.
  • Participate in monthly editorial department meetings and weekly check-ins with the department manager.

Experience 

  • Extensive experience in creating promotional visual materials, including both video and still images.
  • Strong organizational skills, effective communication, and keen attention to detail.
  • Ability to perform well under pressure and tight deadlines.
  • Familiarity with visual effects and animated feature production processes.
  • Basic understanding of video editorial workflows.
  • Proficient in software such as Adobe Premiere Pro, After Effects, Photoshop, Audition, Avid Media Composer, and Avid ISIS Media Network.
  • Comfortable operating across Windows, Linux, and macOS systems.
  • Experience with terminal command line operations.
  • Knowledge of various file formats including MP4, MXF, AAF, AVI, WAV, AIFF, DPX, DCP, and QuickTime outputs and codecs.
  • Proficient in Windows Office, Adobe Reader/PDFs, Google Drive, and Riverside.
  • Understanding of audio file syncing and editing processes.

EDUCATION

  • Formal education in a related field is preferred, but not required

The anticipated base salary for this role is $26.44 to $36.32/hr. Benefits are per company policy: which include healthcare, tuition reimbursement, RRSP's, Sick and Vacation leave, standard increases as applicable. The actual base salary offered will depend on a variety of factors, including without limitation, the qualifications of the individual applicant for the position, years of relevant experience, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and if applicable, the location of the position.
