Job Title: Director, Art Management

Summary: Responsible for building, managing, and mentoring a world-class Art Department to achieve Insomniac's vision of Best Developer.  Ensures excellent on-time in-budget deliveries through strategic planning, team leadership, and collaboration with Department Heads, Art Leaders, and Project Directors. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following: 

  • Responsible for ensuring project quality and the well-being of team members. 

  • Plays games in development to ensure we achieve operational goals and meet our quality bar. 

  • Creates and enforces project art schedules in conjunction with Project Management.  

  • Provides budgeting for the art department in conjunction with Finance. 

  • Directs the professional development of all art employees. 

  • Leads, coaches, and mentors artists and oversees the counsel and guidance of individual employees on career development plans. 

  • Establishes the reporting structure of the art department. 

  • Keeps abreast of all projects and communicates goals and objectives to the team. 

  • Provides strategic resource planning and technical solutions to ensure progress through creative problem-solving within operational constraints. 

  • Ensures that standardized practices are implemented across projects to meet quality and aesthetic standards. 

  • Advises leads on production pipelines, artist assignments, and production tasks. 

  • Maintains job descriptions to represent job families across artistic departments. 

  • Ensures that all complaints and concerns related to inappropriate or unprofessional conduct in the workplace are addressed immediately to foster a safe work environment 

  • Coordinates mentorships, speaking, and educational opportunities for the art team 

  • Espouses and supports the studio's mission to create games that have a positive and lasting impact on people’s lives by helping foster an environment of craft excellence, collaboration, and positivity. 

  • Advocates for studio cultural values and fosters an environment of craft excellence, collaboration, and inclusion. 

  • Builds and maintains relationships with peers and senior leaders to align project and departmental priorities. 

  • Other duties may be assigned

Supervisory Responsibilities: This position is responsible for supervising senior-level art leaders and indirectly overseeing the art function across multiple locations and is responsible for carrying out duties in accordance with the studio’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, interviewing, hiring, and training of employees, planning, assigning, and directing work, appraising performance, rewarding and disciplining employees and addressing any and all complaints and resolving problems. 

Other Skills:

  • Solves problems both independently and collaboratively and adheres to the studio’s expectations of cultural leadership. Strong written and verbal communication skills required. Must be able to present ideas clearly and work well within a large team environment. Must be a good team leader and be able to make informed decisions to achieve desired results. Ability to create and maintain good relationships with other departments as well as external publishers. 
  • Participates with other senior leaders to establish strategic plans and objectives.

At SIE, we consider several factors when setting each role’s base pay range, including the competitive benchmarking data for the market and geographic location. 

Please note that the base pay range may vary in line with our hybrid working policy and individual base pay will be determined based on job-related factors which may include knowledge, skills, experience, and location.

This is a flexible role that can be remote, with varying pay ranges based on geographic location. For example, if you are based out of Seattle, the estimated base pay range for this role is listed below.
