Business Overview
Sony Interactive Entertainment is looking for a passionate Data Center Operations Engineer to be based in our Los Angeles facilities. This position is for an experienced candidate who will work within the Data Center Operations team and have hands on responsibility for ensuring our production Data Center environments are operating efficiently. The primary responsibilities of this job role are to deploy (rack and cable) new hardware, troubleshoot and upgrade existing infrastructure, keep accurate inventory information for all systems, and assist in the documentation of processes and procedures. This position works closely with and provides on-site support to our System Engineering and Network Operations teams.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support existing hardware in multiple Data Center locations within assigned region.
  • Provide hands-on, break/fix support for the data center systems and communications environments through on-site support or the use of Smart hands resources where needed.
  • Installing/de-installing/relocating all rack mounted hardware. (Servers, Network devices, and supporting peripherals)
  • Installing/de-installing/testing of patching cables for all hardware related connectivity (CAT6/7, MMF/SMF)
  • Assist in the coordination of cabinet power and low voltage cabling w/various facilities, electrical and communications vendors.
  • Plan and implement installations in multiple Data Center locations in a timely manner.
  • Manage contractors to ensure work is completed on time and to the required standards.
  • Update and maintain accurate inventory information for multiple Data Center locations on time.
  • Maintain the integrity of the data center facilities, systems, and communications environments through general housekeeping practices and best operations practices.
  • Work closely with Procurement team to track orders and deliveries to multiple Data Center locations.
  • Ensure compliance with data center standards, policies, and procedures are adhered to.
  • Perform required activity, such as scheduled changes and walkthroughs.
  • Assist in management of all spare parts inventory and maintaining accurate information up to date.
  • Keep track of and coordinate the disposal of hardware according to Data Center policies and procedures.
  • Work with the Senior Manager of Data Center Operations to provide status reports for each Data Center location.
  • Refine and document support process for each location including the handling of RMA requests

Candidate Qualifications:

  • BA degree or equivalent experience
  • A minimum of 3 years’ experience working in a production Data Center environment
  • Experience with asset management tracking and reporting.
  • Knowledge of various vendor RMA processes to deal with repairs and returns.
  • Keen understanding of Data Center Operations, maintenance and technical requirements including replacement of components such as hard drives, RAM, CPUs, motherboards, and power supplies.
  • Understanding of the importance of Change Management in an online production environment
  • High interest in technology
  • Highly refined organizational skills
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work cross-functionally.
  • Ability to handle various tasks at one time.
  • High energy and a driven desire to positively impact the business.
  • Ability to rack equipment up to 50 lbs. unassisted.
  • Up to 30% travel required with this position.
  • Must hold a full and valid driving license.

Please note that the base pay range may vary in line with our hybrid working policy and individual base pay will be determined based on job-related factors which may include knowledge, skills, experience, and location.
