How we work

How we work

As a business, we have adapted to the new world. Our teams have the option to work flexibly from the office or at home. We know that collaboration can happen anywhere.

When you’re in the office, you’ll be part of the action. The support centre is operational 24/7 and takes up a large part of our warehouse style office.

When you’re at home, you’re always in touch with the wider Sonder network of teams across multiple digital platforms.

As an employee, you also have access to the full Sonder platform - a group of people that are ready and available to support you in your wellbeing journey every minute of the day and night.

We are incredibly proud of our four Sonder team members who participated in Woolies Wheels and Walks - a wellbeing initiative with Tour de Cure that raises vital funds for cancer research, support, and prevention projects.

Riding the 350+km journey through the beautiful Hunter Valley and into Sydney, our colleagues Peter Mooney, Paras Aggarwal, Elizabeth Notman and Charlene Xu successfully raised $11,000 in funds for cancer research, as part of the impressive $1,400,000+ raised overall.

We are grateful to our friends at Woolworths Group for allowing us to participate in this incredible event for a second year. We look forward to ‘riding for a cure’ with you again next year!

An epic journey to raise awareness for Usher Syndrome

When our Head of Government & Education Partnerships, Rodney Davis, learned that his two-year-old nephew Jett had been diagnosed with Usher Syndrome, he and his family set out to bring greater awareness to the rare genetic disease that impacts hearing, sight and balance and affects around 200 children in Australia.

Impressively, Rodney and Nick Croser (Sonder's Continuous Improvement Manager), along with Rodney’s son Lachie (8) and Darcy (6), cycled and rowed over 200km to raise awareness and money for the important cause. Together, Jett's family and friends raised a staggering $132,000 in support for Usher Kids Australia. This was a truly amazing effort!

Sonder office culture and team events

Recently, John Maclean shared his story of grit and resilience with the Sonder team, he asked us to consider how we might reach our goals. He encouraged us to never stop challenging ourselves and to recognise our own potential as a business and as individuals.

After being involved in an accident that would change the course of his career, his mobility, and life, John posed this very question and he ran with it... quite literally. Choosing not to be defined by his wheelchair, John pushed boundaries, eventually leaving the wheelchair behind by teaching himself not only to walk again but to inspire us all to go a little further.

How far will you go?

Sonder office culture and team events

In May 2021, four of the Sonder team took to the road alongside our friends at Woolworths Group to tackle 330km+ of NSW terrain across 3 days as part of Woolies Wheels. Together, they raised over $12,000 in funds for cancer research. Overall, the event raised more than $1.3 million.

We’re incredibly proud of Peter Mooney, Rebecca Evans, Elizabeth Notman and Clinton Chan for taking on the challenge and we are grateful to our partners and friends at Woolworths Group for allowing us to support this incredible event.

We’ll be back next year!

Dean Feature Draft-8.-700w

The bushfire season of 2019/2020 saw Dean Symons extend his frontline services, temporarily stepping away from his role as a Duty Operations Manager at Sonder to defend his community and protect homes and land across New South Wales.

Dean has since been awarded the NSW Rural Fire Service Commissioner's Commendation for Bravery. We are delighted that the RFS has recognised Dean's courage during this time and his heroic efforts in saving the lives of many over that period, continually putting the lives of others before his own and going above and beyond the call of duty.
