What You'll Do
Our ideal Fixed Asset Accountant / Construction Accountant will manage and oversee the accounting and financial reporting of the company's fixed assets and construction projects. This role requires a strong understanding of accounting principles, particularly in relation to fixed assets and construction accounting. The ideal candidate will have experience in the construction industry and be capable of working with various departments to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting. Reporting to the Director of Finance, this role will be an experienced and efficient leader with excellent people skills, business acumen, and an exemplary work ethic.
Key Responsibilities:
- Fixed Asset Management:
- Maintain and update the fixed asset register, ensuring accuracy and completeness of asset records.
- Perform regular reconciliations of fixed asset accounts to the general ledger.
- Conduct periodic physical inventories of fixed assets and reconcile them with accounting records.
- Prepare and review depreciation schedules and journal entries for asset additions, disposals, and transfers.
- Ensure compliance with relevant accounting standards and internal policies for fixed assets.
- Construction Accounting:
- Monitor and track construction project costs, ensuring they are recorded accurately and timely.
- Collaborate with project managers and other stakeholders to gather and analyze construction cost data.
- Prepare and review job cost reports, budget vs. actual analysis, and project cost forecasts.
- Manage the accounting and financial reporting for construction in progress (CIP) accounts.
- Assist in the preparation of capital expenditure budgets and forecasts.
- Financial Reporting and Analysis:
- Provide detailed analysis and explanations for fixed asset and construction-related variances.
- Support external and internal audits by providing necessary documentation and explanations.
- Ensure compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and relevant regulatory requirements.
- Process Improvement:
- Identify opportunities for process improvements and implement best practices in fixed asset and construction accounting.
- Develop and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs) for fixed asset and construction accounting processes.
What You Need to Get the Job Done
- Education - bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or related field, advanced degree preferred.
- Minimum of 3-5 years of accounting experience, focusing on fixed assets and/or construction accounting.
- Strong understanding of GAAP and relevant accounting standards.
- Project management or tracking.
- Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., SAP, Oracle, or similar ERP systems).
- Advanced Excel skills and experience with financial analysis and reporting tools.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.

Location
We are highly motivated to add the right individual to our growing team. The role is remote and will have travel requirements to the site locations, estimated at 20% travel.
