Solid Power is seeking a Sr. Process Engineer II to join our talented team working to revolutionize the battery industry through the development of next-generation, all solid-state rechargeable batteries. This position is a key role in the engineering group, and critical in helping transition Solid Power technology to market.
The main responsibilities include developing and maturing the cell electrode processing techniques and procedures using scalable and industry proven protocols, procedures, and equipment. The preferrable candidate will have experience in development of lithium-ion batteries using statistical development tools such as Design of Experiments, along with in depth knowledge of cell process development including, slot die coating requirements, calendering steps and handling of hazardous and flammable materials.
This position will be involved in execution of the cell production operations working closely with the Pilot Line Manager, Production Operators, R&D staff and other Sr. Engineers. A strong background in process development is necessary to lead slurry development needed to qualify the Solid Power’s solid state battery technology for start of production. Excellent communication and organizational skills required.
Mature existing pilot scale cell processing from slurry making to pouching.
Perform and develop quality control techniques for cell processing.
Specify, purchase, commission and direct the operation of battery cell processing equipment.
Collaborate with chemists and engineers on cell design and process changes.
Develop new/novel processes to support product development.
Work collaboratively with leaders in other departments to meet and exceed customer deliverables.
Develop a team to develop and run new processes commensurate with company growth.
Use the company’s document and change control system to properly archive technical documentation.
10+ years in R&D or Productions of battery cells.
4+ years in a leadership position.
U.S. citizenship or Permanent Residency required.
Experience working directly with equipment manufacturers.
Familiarity with mechanical and electrical fundamentals of cell production equipment.
Demonstrated emphasis on safety.
Hands-on experience working with hazardous materials, dry powder processes, and wet chemical/slurry and solvent-based operations.
Experience using PLC controlled robotics a plus.
Rapid learner who thrives in a fast-paced start-up environment.
Salary Range: $100,000 - $127,000/year
