Solid Power is seeking a Sr. Cell Development Engineer to join our talented team working to revolutionize the battery industry through the development of next-generation, all solid-state rechargeable batteries. Solid Power is a dynamic, fast-paced, collaborative team environment. This position will work closely with cell engineering team, testing team & external labs to help in the execution of battery cell test plans to qualify the Solid Power’s solid state battery technology.
Lead the cell design & development efforts throughout the product development cycle and launch pouch cells into production.
Define cell design to meet specific customer requirements (automotive, defense applications etc..).
Qualify anode materials, cathode materials, electrolyte materials and new electrode compositions in single layer pouch cells and transfer them to large capacity pouch cells.
Optimize the electrode composition, electrode processing, cell assembly processes and cell design parameters to improve the electrochemical performance & abuse performance.
Define specifications for materials, slurry formulations, electrodes, cell subassemblies and final cell. Write DFMEA.
Define & execute DVP&Rs for materials & cell qualification.
Conduct design reviews and release the design to production upon successful validation.
Perform tear downs to identify failure modes and prepare reports.
Assist the production team in defining manufacturing processes.
Use the company’s document and change control system to properly archive technical documentation.
Work closely, collaboratively, and effectively with other departments and team members.
Minimum of Master’s degree in Electrochemistry or chemical or material science engineering.
Minimum 3 years of Industry experience in development of large scale lithium or lithium ion batteries.
Significant Experience in cell design & development for different customer applications.
Experience in development & optimization of cell chemistry (cathode materials, anode materials).
In-depth knowledge of Li-ion battery cell operation, performance and failure modes.
S. citizenship or Permanent Residency required.
Salary Range: $85,000 - $112,000/year
