Entry to Mid-Level Position

Basic Functions & Scope

The primary function of this position is to be an expert storyteller using videography as the primary platform. At Sokal, the Video Editor will be tasked with working closely alongside the Creative Director, editing content, adding audio, incorporating motion graphics, and ultimately transforming raw footage into advertising works of art.

Position Responsibilities

  • Edit television spots until it meets director’s specifications
  • Work with and manipulate raw camera footage, dialogue, sound effects, graphics, and special effects
  • Find the camera angles to use to accurately capture the director’s vision of the advertisement
  • Quality control finished edits, suggesting changes when necessary
  • Assist the Director of Photography on video shoots
  • Find the proper sequence and adjust the content to ensure the logical order and the smooth running of the advertisement
  • Determine exact cutting for final stages
  • Work with director to achieve the desired end result

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equal years of experience to demonstrate the necessary competencies required for the position
  • At least 1-3 years experience using advanced editing software (Adobe Premiere preferred, but not required)
  • Videography skills are a plus, but not required
  • Organizational skills important to track jobs in and out of the studio
  • Balance numerous jobs at once
  • Thrive in fast-paced environment
  • Take creative direction and instruction
  • At least 1-3 years experience developing motion graphics

Supervisory Responsibility

  • This position has no supervisory responsibilities; however, departmental video quality edits and critiques are required

Working Conditions

Video Editors are both seated and standing for 6-7 hours per day, performing constant motions such as typing and using other computer equipment. Certain situations may require bending, squatting, or lifting objects that do not exceed more than 50lbs. 

Travel is less than 10% with some overnight stays when necessary.
