Our Redmond, WA engineering team is at the forefront of innovation, bringing together electrical and embedded systems engineers to tackle cutting-edge challenges across multiple industries, delivering tightly coupled electronic and electromechanical systems to our customers. SOE is typically involved from initial concept development through architecture, resulting in prototypes or low-volume production.

In addition to collaborating with SOE’s broader engineering organization to deliver impactful solutions, the Redmond team plays a pivotal role in developing and championing best practices for electrical and firmware engineering processes company-wide. This leadership drives excellence across practices and processes for developing analog circuitry, mixed-signal design, embedded systems, and power electronics, ensuring that every SOE project meets the highest standards of quality and performance.

Job Overview:
As a Senior Electrical Engineering Manager, you are accountable for ensuring the Redmond engineering team aligns with SOE's strategic goals while meeting customer needs, balancing between advocating for your team and maintaining accountability. Your strong technical background and consulting skills will ensure project scope is controlled while staying responsive to addressing customer needs.

Your responsibilities of supporting the team as a mentor and guide, as a subject matter expert, and as a facilitator of infrastructure and team needs will result in the effective professional development of the Redmond team. You'll collaborate with senior leadership to create a growth roadmap and develop new core competencies that contribute to SOE's long-term success.

What You Will Do:

  • Shape the engineering team at SOE’s Redmond office by owning their engineering decisions, output, and outcomes
  • Ensure the success of projects in multiple industries through driving technical discussions with customers and accurately capturing scope change
  • Manage, mentor, and support the Redmond engineering team, helping them develop business and personal goals, build their skills, and advance professionally
  • Set clear expectations for the team and effectively resource members to projects and efforts
  • Strategically develop and invest in infrastructure to enable engineering team growth
  • Partner with Business Development (BD) to identify new opportunities and scope new business
  • Collaborate with senior leadership to set company-wide engineering strategies

What You Will Need:

  • Bachelor's degree (Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Physics, Systems Engineering, or related field)
  • 10+ years in an electrical engineering and hardware development role for aerospace, industrial automation, and/or robotics, especially for tightly coupled systems
  • 7+ years of progressively impactful team and people management
  • Previous experience in an engineering design leadership role
  • Strong management capabilities; ability to identify and grow talent, build a sense of community within a team, and improve the output of other engineers
  • Expertise with respect to end-to-end electronics design from requirements generation through hardware bring-up along 
  • Excellent communication skills; ability to synthesize and communicate technical information to non-technical stakeholders
  • Ability to recognize and manage project risk, which includes controlling internally and externally driven scope creep, identifying and remediating missing critical requirements, and ensuring project technical challenges are sufficiently addressed by the staffing plan

What Would Be Useful:

  • Master’s degree (Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Systems Engineering, Engineering Management, Physics, or related field)  
  • Experience in startup, tech, or consulting environments, managing multiple responsibilities simultaneously
  • Experience with client interaction for a complex technical product or service
  • Ability to navigate ambiguous situations and deliver difficult information to senior leadership, employees and clients
