The Electrical Engineering (EE) functional team, which represents SOE’s deepest functional proficiency, is composed of highly skilled and experienced professionals dedicated to delivering innovative and reliable electrical solutions for our customers. With a passion for cutting-edge technology and a commitment to excellence, we strive to exceed client expectations and contribute to the success of every endeavor.

Our team has expertise in analog circuits, mixed-signal designs, embedded programming, RF, power electronics, and optical systems development. This allows us to support a wide variety of customers in different industries and gives our engineers a chance to grow and learn from leaders across different specializations and disciplines. Job Overview:

As an Electrical Engineering Manager, you will contribute to and shape the development, maturation, and expansion of the Electrical Engineering functional team and discipline at SOE. This will require you to work with senior leadership to develop a roadmap for how the team will grow and drive new core competencies aimed towards the long-term success of SOE, supporting not only execution of projects but also the business development and hiring pipelines. You will be responsible for the professional development of the team members, facilitate infrastructure creation and maintenance, and support the team as an individual contributor and subject matter expert. 

What You Will Do: 

  • Design and champion a roadmap geared towards establishing excellence with respect to EE technical output and ensuring the successful execution of projects in multiple industries (aerospace, robotics, renewable energy, medical devices, etc.)
  • Manage, mentor, and guide the EE functional team and mature the team’s current core competencies and skill sets
  • Set clear expectations for the EE team and effectively manage resources to enable team and project efficiency 
  • Strategically develop and invest in infrastructure that will enable the growth and success of Electrical Engineers at SOE
  • Partner with Business Development (BD) to identify new opportunities and scope electrical work
  • Collaborate with senior leadership to set company-wide engineering strategies

What You Will Need:

  • Bachelor’s degree (Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Physics, Systems Engineering, or related field)
  • 7+ years in an electrical engineering design role for aerospace, hardware development, medical devices, renewable energy, or a related industry
  • 5+ years in a technical project management or leadership role in an engineering, production, or R&D environment 
  • 3+ years of experience managing, mentoring, and leading engineers in the design and development of novel electrical systems 
  • Expertise with respect to end-to-end electronics design from requirements generation through schematic, layout, fabrication, and hardware bring-up 
  •  Excellent communication skills for interfacing with internal engineering teams and external suppliers and customers
  • Experience writing technical requirements and managing engineering projects; ability to recognize project risk, scope creep, and missing critical requirements 

What Would Be Useful:

  • Master’s degree (Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Systems Engineering, Engineering Management, Physics, or related field)  
  • Experience working in a startup/tech/consulting environment, prioritizing and managing numerous responsibilities concurrently
  • Familiarity with one or more aviation/aerospace, medical, automotive, or industrial certification processes, including DO-178C, DO-160, ISO 26262, IEC 60601
  • Expertise with at least one ECAD tool, such as Altium Designer, KiCad, Cadence, PADS, EAGLE, etc.
  • Knowledge of and familiarity with PCB fabrication and assembly process, design for manufacture and design for assembly (DFM / DFA), and IPC and/or JEDEC standards
  • Experience with C/C++ firmware development or Verilog HDL development
  • Experience in modeling, simulation, and testing of electronics

  • Applicant must be willing to work 40 hours a week on-site in El Segundo, California, USA
  • Applicant must be eligible to work on ITAR projects
