The Job at a Glance
Reporting to the Director of Merchants & Payments, this role will own the processes and systems that we use to classify retailer item assortments into our internal taxonomy. You will leverage your experience with data models and rule-based queries to ensure that data from new merchant partners is seamlessly integrated into our taxonomy, and that the taxonomy we use is always up to date with the latest needs from the market. You will work closely each day with a variety of cross-functional teams such as Product, Engineering, and Implementation, and you will ensure that other downstream teams such as Member Experience and Customer Care are equipped for any impacts that changes to our taxonomy bring to their areas.
What You’ll Do
Working within an organization created at the intersection of health care, retail and financial technology, no two days will look the same. Typical responsibilities of the role include:
- Own the day-to-day management of our item taxonomy system, ensuring that item assortment files from our integrated merchant partners are consistently mapped to the most specific level available
- Write query-based rules to assign items to the appropriate item family groupings in our internal taxonomy
- Intake and adjudicate change requests to our internal taxonomy. Manage a water-tight periodic update and release process for taxonomy changes
- Support the Merchant Integrations team in executing our playbook for retailer integrations. Some specific implementation tasks that you will own include (but are not limited to):
- Review and/or update existing query rules to ensure that data from new retail partners is appropriately accommodated
- Drive onboarding for new assortment categorizations and/or update existing categorizations to ensure that new merchant item assortments are indexed appropriately
- Support the mapping of new merchant data into our internal systems, writing clear and concise user stories for import jobs (bonus points if you’re technical enough to write the job code yourself)
- Collect and maintain data sets for training machine learning models
- Manage the ticketing and issue triage process for item classification issues and maintain a consistent set of quality reports to demonstrate the health of our taxonomy and item classification systems
- Act as a key thought partner with Product and Engineering to ensure new roadmap items are scoped appropriately with buy-in from our retail partners so that we are set up for integration and operational success when delivered
- Maintain crisp and hyper-organized internal and external documentation
- Establish strong relationships with Engineering, Product, Business Development, Implementation, Member Experience, and other key business partners. Act as a liaison between these groups and ensure comprehensive and timely communication of projects to all relevant stakeholders
About You
While every candidate brings a unique resume and prospective, an ideal candidate will include:
- 3-5+ years of experience working in data-heavy roles. Comfort with integrating large data sets into proprietary systems, experience with SQL or similar solutions is a must. Familiarity with merchant assortment catalogs and other retailer technologies is a plus
- Relentless pursuit of process efficiency without sacrificing quality. You have specific examples of times you’ve delivered near-perfect results while being able to nearly “automate yourself out of a job” with the processes you built
- Strong familiarity with JIRA and Looker Studio to perform data insights, QA analysis, and issue triage & resolution
- Ability to manage multiple projects and deliver against deadlines with different teams; you thrive in shifting between working through the latest item classification issue, driving internal efficiency improvements, and supporting new roadmap features
- Ability to balance a strong attention to detail with being able to think strategically
- Commitment to building a diverse culture that is highly collaborative, strives to set and achieve goals together, and embraces transparency, innovation, and accountability
