For 100 years the Social Science Research Council (SSRC) has provided the policy and philanthropic communities with access to social and behavioral scientists working to innovate and evaluate scalable solutions to pressing societal problems. In collaboration with our partners, we administer fellowships and research grants, convene researchers and stakeholders, produce online knowledge platforms and technical reports, support mentoring programs, and provide fiscal sponsorship. In our work we mobilize our extensive global network of over 250,000 researchers in the Council’s seven founding disciplinary associations, faculty and institutional leaders from member institutions in the College and University Fund for the Social Sciences, and our many funding partners. Our digital communications team works to promote the SSRC and its mission through a public-facing website, social media, email, branded publications, virtual and in-person events, and other initiatives.
The SSRC is seeking a Communications Coordinator to work closely with the digital communications team to create and manage diverse digital and print communications materials, including contributing to both editorial content and digital design. The Communications Coordinator will provide both writing and editorial support as well as digital design and production support for print and digital outputs that include social media, blog content, email campaigns, website pages, formatted reports, and other materials.
Responsibilities
- Write, edit, and manage social media content across platforms (X, LinkedIn, YouTube, etc.) using modern digital content creation tools
- Ensure high editorial and design standards for print and digital communications
- Coordinate and maintain the SSRC’s communications calendar, including scheduling items across programs
- Collaborate with the Director of Technology and Digital Operations on digital project execution
- Assist in writing, editing, and managing email campaigns across the organization
- Proofread internal and external communications for clarity and consistency
- Support content management and editing for SSRC’s blog posts, stories, and website (SSRC.org), providing additional web management as needed
- Provide administrative support, including departmental accounting and database maintenance for outreach and marketing purposes
- Assist with optimization of marketing lists and social advertising to maximize online engagement.
- Participate in additional projects and responsibilities based on interest and capacity
- Stay updated on emerging trends and best practices in digital communications and marketing
- This position may require in person attendance at conferences, events, or other meetings held in New York City
qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required; interest and/or experience in the social and behavioral sciences a plus
- 3+ years’ experience developing and publishing content to social platforms and websites
- Detail-oriented, with demonstrated success in creating engaging and impactful communications materials across print and digital platforms; experience with non-profit or academically-oriented organizations a plus
- Strong writing, editing, and organizational skills
- Strong interpersonal communication skills for engaging with a variety of internal and external stakeholders
- Creativity, initiative, and energy to identify and propose new digital content initiatives
- Proficient with HTML, CSS, and web content management systems such as WordPress
- Proficient with digital content production and design systems such as Figma and Adobe Creative Cloud
- Proficient with standard video production/editing tools (such as Adobe Premiere) for digital media development needs
- Experience in managing email campaigns in e-newsletter platforms, such as MailChimp
- Proficient with standard video production/editing tools (such as Adobe Premiere) for digital media development needs
- Working knowledge of web analytics and online advertising tools, such as Google Analytics/AdWords
- Strong eye for visual design and effective information architecture/presentation
Terms, Salary, and Benefits
Annual salary range is $65,000 - $85,000, commensurate with experience and education.
