Our Opportunity:

We’re seeking an experienced and collaborative engineering manager to lead Snyk’s Runtime team. This role will appeal to you if you are passionate about shifting-left runtime signals to support AppSec activities, leveraging deep knowledge of cloud environments, language runtimes, and low-level instrumentation techniques. You will build scalable solutions that help developers and AppSec teams effectively prioritize their efforts to reduce the risk of their applications.

You’ll Spend Your Time:

  • You’ll be the technical owner and leader of Snyk’s runtime capabilities  - shaping the vision and technical designs based on a large set of potential tools.
  • You’ll be accountable for co-developing the team roadmap and participate actively in the day to day development with team members.
  • People - you’ll be responsible for the hiring of any new members in your team, onboarding and training great engineers. You’ll be involved in career development, pay, promotion and performance reviews.
  • Processes - you’ll help the team learn, adapt and improve upon agile and lean methodologies. You’ll help the teams understand and maintain a balance between delivery speed and product quality. You’ll be responsible for the team’s on-call process and rota, and be a point of escalation for incidents. 
  • Building Snyk’s runtime capabilities - collecting runtime signals from various sources (Snyk’s Runtime Sensor, 3rd party APIs) and correlating them with data from Snyk’s different scanners to provide powerful prioritization, discovery and automation.
  • Designing, developing, and maintaining systems to capture and process runtime data using technologies such as eBPF and other observability techniques.
  • Analyzing, designing and implementing high-quality solutions to problems with well-tested, maintainable code.
  • Building systems with the long-term in mind, focusing on good design, robust testing, and sustainability from the perspective of cost and scale.

What You'll Need:

  • At Snyk, each team is composed of an Engineering Manager (that's you!) and several Engineers. The team regularly collaborates with architects from across the division, as well as Product Managers.
  • We are a distributed organization, with the Runtime team based mostly in Israel.
  • While we have a strong culture of collaboration, our teams are empowered and encouraged to set and drive their direction and priorities - to define how their work will ladder up to our strategic objectives. We don’t have a culture of micro-management. Instead, it is a culture of support, coaching, facilitation and deep care.
  • At least 2 years of commercial experience as an Engineering Manager.
  • Experience in large-scale software systems design, and familiarity with fundamental computer science concepts (algorithms, complexity, data structures).
  • Proficiency in at least one of our core programming languages (Go, TypeScript), and a willingness and enthusiasm for learning new languages and technologies.
  • Deep understanding of cloud infrastructure (Kubernetes, Docker and containerization, cloud providers), language runtimes and networking.
  • Knowledge of different language ecosystems (compiled / interpreted / runtime-based) -  compilation, runtime execution, dependencies.
  • Advantage - knowledge and understanding of different instrumentation techniques (kernel-level/eBPF, application-level).
  • Experience in building highly reliable, scalable microservice back-ends for web APIs or applications, or other types of large-scale, high reliability systems.
