We are actively hiring hands-on Performance/Scalability engineers from Europe and across the world for our European Engineering Center. Our office is located at Potsdamer Platz in the heart of Berlin. It is conveniently accessible by train, subway, bus, or bicycle - and there are a large number of restaurants, cafes, and shops within walking distance. The official language for this office is English.

This is a unique opportunity to join other experienced engineers who will form the core of a new distributed systems team in Berlin. The focus of this team will be to build infrastructure components to solve complex problems involving distributed systems, service-oriented architectures, metadata storage, cloud infrastructure, and more. This role offers the ability to make a significant impact on our elastic, large scale, high-performance infrastructure.

As a Senior Performance Engineer you will:

  • Proactively monitor, analyze and tune Snowflake Production deployments across a variety of Cloud Providers.
  • Engage in the analysis and correction of Production performance events.
  • Develop, deploy, track and manage sets of synthetic workloads to test changes.
  • Optimize Memory/CPU/System stability characteristics through focussed tuning.
  • Drive Cost optimization initiatives.
  • Perform A/B Performance comparisons during system deployments (across Java / C++ / Python / Linux and Cloud Providers).

Our ideal Senior Performance Engineer will have:

  • 5+ years industry experience analyzing, tuning and evolving large-scale, fault tolerant, Production systems.
  • Proven experience in Java programming & diagnostics.
  • Extensive, hands-on, usage of at least one major cloud provider (eg. AWS, Azure, Google Cloud).
  • A history of working on large scale, distributed systems operating across large numbers of tiers and technologies.
  • Exposure to one or more of GIT, Jenkins, Python scripting, JIRA, SQL, EDW’s, Linux Networking & Storage.  
  • Have proven past infrastructure tuning experience at both the JVM and Linux level.
  • BS in Computer Science & Fluency in English.
