Smartsheet is looking for a Director to lead our Corporate Accounting team. This represents an excellent opportunity for a motivated individual who is knowledgeable in accounting and proficient in building interpersonal relationships, both in and outside of the Accounting department.

Our Corporate Accounting team owns all P&L and Balance Sheet accounting (other than that related to revenue, accounts receivable, and deferred revenue). In addition to the management of monthly close and consolidation processes, the Corporate Accounting team covers a variety of challenging topics including capitalized software, commissions, leases, share-based compensation, and self-insurance. The team has high visibility within the overall accounting organization and within the company. 

You will report to our Senior Director, Corporate Controller located in our Bellevue, WA office.  You may work remotely from anywhere in the US where Smartsheet is a registered employer.

You Will:

  • Lead, mentor, and coach our Corporate Accounting team (staff through managers)
  • Lead the monthly close process across a variety of accounting topics and teams
  • Review accounting workpapers and own internal control documentation for corporate accounting processes
  • Drive scalability efforts in our accounting processes through cross-functional partnering, system implementations, ERP enhancements, and process improvements
  • Work cross functionally with other internal teams to gather data, resolve issues, and scale our business processes
  • Partner with the SEC and Technical Accounting team to review and provide corporate accounting schedules required as support for quarterly and annual filings
  • Review analyses of variances between financial results month-over-month and quarter-over-quarter to ensure our financial statements are complete and accurate
  • Interact with external and internal auditors as the primary representative of the Corporate Accounting team
  • Perform other duties as assigned

You Have:

  • 10+ years relevant work experience with proven progressive career path, public company and SOX experience strongly preferred
  • 5+ years of people management/team leadership experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a related field required
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) with strong knowledge of US GAAP and financial statements
  • NetSuite experience strongly preferred
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to explain accounting topics in an understandable and logical manner
  • Previous audit experience, especially through public accounting, is strongly preferred
  • Willingness to approach tasks hands-on and balance competing priorities across the Corporate Accounting team
  • Excellent time management, prioritization, and organizational skills
  • Familiarity with SaaS subscription business models is a plus
  • Proven track record of fostering relationships across all functions and levels throughout the company
  • Ability to embrace new technology, applications, and solutions in a fast-paced company

Smartsheet provides a competitive range of compensation for roles that may be hired in different geographic areas we are licensed to operate our business from. Actual compensation is determined by several factors including, but not limited to, level of professional, educational experience, skills, and specific candidate location. In addition, this role will be eligible for a market competitive bonus and RSU stock grant upon accepted offer.
California & New York: $178,200 to $248,400 | All other US States: $165,000 to $230,000
