As the practice leader for content strategy and editorial on the Experience Design team, you’ll work closely with UX Designers, UX Researchers, Product Managers to shape the product experience by providing tools, guidelines, and writing, that ensures complex concepts get translated into easy-to-understand, goal-focused language for our users.

This role will report to the Sr. Director, User Experience

You Will:

  • Collaborate with diverse cross-functional partners from Design, Research, Product, Marketing, and Engineering, to build content strategy and editorial standards that help product teams execute faster and with quality
  • Develop and drive a comprehensive content strategy across numerous product areas and associated teams, that impacts the customer experience with improved engagement, satisfaction, retention and conversion
  • Lead, mentor, and motivate a team of writers: set strategy and evaluate content deliverables, while ensuring the team is unblocked, productive, and constantly improving
  • Help shift the design process to a content-first approach, emphasizing the importance of narrative and content standards to user success
  • Write in-app messaging for a variety of capabilities within the Smartsheet ecosystem, creating personable, concise, and purposeful UI content that forges emotional connections, communicates the brand, and improves usability


You Have:

  • Bachelor's degree or above in English, Communications, Journalism, Technical Writing, User Experience, Human-Computer Interaction, or equivalent practical experience
  • 4+ years leading & mentoring teams, creating an inclusive and productive environment for work
  • 4+ years writing for SaaS products or Enterprise software applications
  • 7+ years of experience writing effective content 
  • Experience creating structure and process that optimize group productivity, transparency, and success
  • Examples of writing, content strategy, or editorial standards that directly impacted a product or business 
  • Excellent time-management and organizational skills
  • A knack for translating complicated technical concepts into everyday terms
  • Familiarity with writing sharp, benefit-focused marketing statements 

Nice to have:

  • Experience with accessibility standards and writing ARIA-labels, alt-text descriptions, and help content for screen readers
  • Familiarity with writing messaging for project and resource management capabilities such as Gantt charts and baselines, allocation and capacity of resources, data visualization, and more 
  • Familiarity with writing for marketing tools: proof reviewing capabilities, photo editing and compositing tools, digital asset curation, digital project management, and others.
