Backend Engineer – BugSnag Distributed Tracing

• This position will involve working on Distributed tracing capabilities in BugSang
• You will build new features and helping to improve the efficiency and reliability of existing services
• You will have the opportunity to work with the latest industry-leading technologies, architectures, languages, data storage, and messaging frameworks; as well as being empowered to explore and contribute your own ideas
• You will work with languages such as Go and Node.js Java and Ruby, developing distributed tracing, Real User Monitoring (RUM), and other observability solutions.

About the role:

As a Backend Engineer at SmartBear, you will be focused on developing BugSnag’s highly scalable, cloud based distributed tracing or observability processing systems. You will take ownership of features from low level design and implementation, to creating automated tests and deploying into our live production systems. You will also be empowered to contribute to improving our tools and processes, to ensure we continue to provide an industry-leading working environment.

• Joining an agile team of talented engineers focusing on the design, development, and testing of BugSnag's core error report and observability processing systems
• Working on a microservice architecture in Go, Node.js, Java and Ruby with Kubernetes, Docker, and Google Cloud Platform (GCP)
• Working with storage solutions like MongoDB, Redis, ClickHouse and messaging technologies gRPC/Protobuf, RabbitMQ and Kafka
• Taking joint responsibility for the maintenance of several sub-systems
• Working closely with other engineering teams on new product features
• Working with customer engineers to investigate and resolve issues reported by users.

We are looking for you if you have:

• 3+ years' experience developing in some of our key languages; Go, Node.js, Java or Ruby
• Experience in working with storage solutions like MongoDB, Redis, Elasticsearch, ClickHouse
• Experience with messaging technologies like gRPC/Protobuf, RabbitMQ and Kafka
• Recent experience working in an agile and dynamic development environment making use of continuous delivery and test-driven development
• Experience with Open Telemetry (huge bonus)
• A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science/Engineering or equivalent experience
• English at B2 level or above
