Job Summary

We are designing the first human-rated, commercial-ready version of our technology. 

The senior mechanical engineer (SME) will take the technical lead in specifying, designing & developing skyTran’s next generation vehicle levitation assemblies. These assemblies include advanced magnetic subassemblies such as magnetic propulsion drives, brakes & floats. This position will lead development of all critical test equipment and fixtures as well. This position also requires proficiency in operating Solidworks/CAD design tools developing concept layouts & various preliminary analysis including loads, dynamic, thermal expansion, and vehicle safety studies. The SME shall perform all aspects of project management duties including multiple design & technical interchange reviews, status & budget reviews. The senior engineer will assist the VP Engineering in technical proposals and technical inquiries by Reliance Industries technical team.

Responsibilities:

  • Distill complex equipment specifications for next generation MagLev Vehicle into component & subsystems requirements.
  • Responsible for specification compliance to equipment system design.
  • Develop and test models of alternative mechanical and electromechanical structures, wing floats, propulsion systems designs, feasibility studies, and resultant operating effects.
  • Conduct research testing and analyze the feasibility of design, operation and vehicle equipment subassemblies.
  • Prepare and present detailed equipment designs and critical technical reviews.
  • Create project budgets, task schedules, and project management plans.
  • Develop 2D and 3D concept layouts, FEA analyses, and parts designs using CAD tools.
  • Assist in checking and validating DWGs meet design, manufacturing inspection, and supplier requirements.
  • Assist in creating complete interface control, and assembly DWG’s along with BOM documents.
  • Develop manufacturing processes and procedures per design/development results.
  • Mentor junior and fellow engineers on rigor, analytics, and proven engineering standards.

Desired Qualifications

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering with 10 years industry experience.
  • Experience in leading development of complex new electromechanical products.
  • 2500 hours experience w SolidWorks. Experience in PDM strongly preferred
  • Experienced in Automotive or Aerospace industries is a plus.
  • Proficient with GD&T (ASME Y-14.5M) design & DWG practices are required.
  • FEA capabilities a plus - SolidWorks Sim, Ansys, Catia strongly preferred.
  • Hands-on shop fabrication, assembly, maintenance, and/or mechatronics are required.
  • Superb creativity, vision & problem solving skills.
