Solving DeFi @ Scale
Our mission at Skolem is to open the gates to DeFi for institutions through a single integration point that has the most reliable, sophisticated execution technology available. Skolem's robust infrastructure enables institutions to participate directly in DeFi markets - through trading, yield farming, staking, and liquidity provisioning - without materially increasing technical headcount and portfolio risk.

Institutions can confidently trade in and out of DeFi through Skolem's premier, one-of-a-kind technology stack. Institutional investors can rest assured they will get superior execution on complex trades during times of market duress.

Engineering at Skolem

At Skolem, we use deep technological expertise and a security research mindset to deliver best-in-class financial products to customers. As a team, we focus on writing code that is secure and stable at scale while also retaining ease of use and simplicity for customers.

Writing code at Skolem is an enjoyable experience focused on solving complex problems. We regularly take time to ensure that a feature is done correctly and that technical debt is paid down. Skolem has a distributed architecture built from the ground up, emphasizing security with defined service boundaries and controls.

We believe knowledge is acquired on the job and frequently pair programs to solve problems or help pass along specific skills. Skolem is, for the time being, still a small company, so as a member of the team, you'll have a highly impactful role as we grow into the next stage of our business.

What we do

The SRE team is a growing foundational team, that will build backend services as well as tooling and automation to allow the development team to release and scale their software reliably and predictably. As a leader and manager, you will run a team with an on-call schedule and bring a high level of morale through fair and thoughtful leadership principles. We want to build and create teams where the workload is as balanced as possible. For the right leader, there’s a lot of room to think about the right technology solutions. We take these decisions very seriously and will be quite careful and intentionally measured with regards to new systems and technologies.

Technologies we work with

React, Typescript, Terraform, Ansible, OCaml, AWS.

As Lead SRE, you can expect to:

  • Manage, Lead, and Hire for your team of SREs at different experience levels toward Skolem’s development needs
  • Possess knowledge of CI/CD pipelines and build tools. You either have worked as a release engineer before or have similar experience being chiefly responsible for CI/CD in a startup.
  • Create and maintain documentation and playbooks for Skolem’s release processes
  • Read, understand, and debug code written in [Go and TypeScript]; you can get to the bottom of build failures and aid developers in fixing them.
  • Communication with excellence and principled motivation. You have coordinated critical initiatives across several teams in a fully remote environment.

What We Value:

  • 8+ years of software engineering experience, with most of this time in Site Reliability and DevOps, with several years in a leadership capacity.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, similar technical field of study, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Experience with modern cloud infrastructure. Ideally, you have been working as a DevOps engineer or an SRE prior to moving into management; you don’t need to have a lot of hands-on experience, but you do need to have a solid understanding of our stack ***([AWS, Github Actions, Kubernetes, Terraform, Grafana/Prometheus])***.
  • Experience managing remote teams. Our team is fully remote and highly distributed geographically, and so are our stakeholders. You should be very familiar with both the advantages and the challenges that remote can bring
  • Strong passion for blockchain, DeFi, and the overall future of Web3. It will be hard to be successful at this role if you don't understand what we are doing and why.

We understand it takes a diverse team of highly intelligent, passionate, curious, and creative people to develop the exceptional product we are building. Our dynamic team has incredible perspectives to share, just as we know you do, and we take great pride in our range of backgrounds and inclusive culture. We'd love to hear from you.

Voluntary Self-Identification of Disability

Why are you being asked to complete this form?

We are a federal contractor or subcontractor required by law to provide equal employment opportunity to qualified people with disabilities. We are also required to measure our progress toward having at least 7% of our workforce be individuals with disabilities. To do this, we must ask applicants and employees if they have a disability or have ever had a disability. Because a person may become disabled at any time, we ask all of our employees to update their information at least every five years.

Identifying yourself as an individual with a disability is voluntary, and we hope that you will choose to do so. Your answer will be maintained confidentially and not be seen by selecting officials or anyone else involved in making personnel decisions. Completing the form will not negatively impact you in any way, regardless of whether you have self-identified in the past. For more information about this form or the equal employment obligations of federal contractors under Section 503 of the Rehabilitation Act, visit the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP) website at www.dol.gov/ofccp.
