About the Role

As the first member of the data engineering team you will be on the ground floor to make sure Sigma is successful in meeting its goals as a tool for internal analysis as well as a kickass product for our customers. You will manage our many data sources, structures and platforms creating a data arcadia that allows our business and our product to function and perform well. You will be encouraged to blog, speak, and join events to talk about the work you are doing and how other companies can follow our lead.

You will:

  • Architect and manage our ETL processes and pipelines, data warehouses, and our very own Sigma instance from availability, performance and architecture perspectives. (Technologies we use: Fivetran, dbt, Snowflake, Redshift, BigQuery, Postgres)
  • Be an advocate for our product direction and roadmap. We are champions of our own product and need you to be one as well.
  • Give power to the people. People are our strongest asset and we need you to work with team members from across the company to get them the data they need to support the business.
  • Give power to our customers. Our customers need to analyze their Sigma usage data, too. The models you architect and build will be the ones we integrate into our product externally, too.
  • Work cross functionally to accomplish all of the above! You’ll work across Product, Engineering, Sales, Marketing and with users of all skills and levels (including the Sigma executive leadership team).

You are:

  • Passionate about our values and how we work together.
  • A systems thinker. You’ll need to build and guide processes for data use and quality as well as frameworks for data models.
  • Detail oriented. Our data models are production systems and we need someone meticulous to maintain them as such.
  • Independently driven. You’re the first of the team, so we’re looking for someone to identify problems and run at them fast.
  • A strong communicator. You’ll be working with many stakeholders across the company, so we need someone who’s comfortable communicating with the whole company as their audience.
  • Experienced with business intelligence, data warehousing, and ETL tools. Not only will you own and manage how these tools are used, you’ll also influence how we integrate our own product into these ecosystems.

You have:

  • 5+ years of relevant experience.
  • A passion not just for data, but for people too. Your job is to be the bridge between both worlds.
  • Advanced knowledge of SQL and relational databases.
  • Experience with at least Python, R, Scala, or Java is a plus
