Sightline Media Group is the leading news organization covering military, defense, public sector, federal employees, C4ISR and cyber defense. Our independent, award-winning journalism offers coverage from around the globe, from Sightline headquarters in the Washington, DC area to bureaus and correspondents in the U.S. and around the world. The Federal Times publication is a longstanding source for news on the people that make the federal government work, from career employees to contractors to agency leadership.

We have an immediate opening for a journalist to lead Federal Times on a day-to-day basis.

This job requires:

  • Regularly contributing enterprise that better explains the issues federal agencies are grappling with
  • Keeping an eye on the big picture issues at the federal workforce beat
  • Offering smart analysis
  • Finding wire stories to complement our coverage
  • Ensuring that federal agency leaders’ viewpoints are a presence in our pages
  • Covering government and industry officials who want to shape how hundreds of billions of dollars are spent each year
  • Making routine announcements sing with clean writing and insight

We don’t want stenography or a reporter who hops from event to event.  We want someone who looks past buzzwords, won’t be easily led and thinks hard about the consequences of every decision.  We sweat details. Our editors value accuracy, clarity and a good story.

Federal Times is part of Sightline Media, which also owns Military Times, Air Force Times, Marine Corps Times, Army Times, Navy Times, Defense News and C4ISRNET. We have a team of nearly 50 reporters, editors and correspondents worldwide.
