We now seek to create an offsite construction company delivering high-quality mass timber buildings for more sustainable living and working. The company's end-to-end approach will combine craft design and advanced manufacturing to produce customizable buildings with speed and certainty. It will be based in the Pacific Northwest. We have a unique opportunity to transform the way our urban environment is built, and build a successful venture in doing so. This company’s efforts will include:

Designing, building, and operating a world-class advanced manufacturing facility and supply chain to produce panelized mass timber building components (floor cassettes, structural members, facade panels, and walls). 

Working with developers and architects to create high performance, market ready buildings that are optimized for production in our factory.

Using advanced model-based digital manufacturing techniques to simulate and validate the production system design and performance, enabling us to deliver greater and earlier certainty project delivery price and schedule for our customers.

Shipping optimally flat-packed, ready-to-assemble building parts to a customer’s development site, once the site is prepared for vertical construction.

Investing in and scaling multiple business lines beyond the first factory, including digital design products, new material technologies, and digital factory solutions.

What is the role?

In this new role you will be an early member of our Mass Timber Buildings Factory team. As part of the Product Design group, you will support the design development, documentation and model management, and the project feasibility process.

Our work centers on designing, deploying, and managing our "kit of parts" to support project design. You will be joining a team of architects and engineers dedicated to advancing mass timber design through modern production technologies and practices.

This is a contributor role with a path to grow, likely a great fit for someone with 6-10 years of experience. It is an opportunity to translate our technical designs and vision into reality, implement a novel building production system centered on modern production technologies and practices, all in an industry that has seen little innovation.

The day-to-day work will be focused on product management and working with the fabrication team to optimize the different components of our “kit of parts” for deployment. This will require a high degree of strategic coordination and cohesiveness with our various groups. 

To specify, you will initially be interfacing with the:

  • design and delivery teams to analyze product and projects.
  • fabrication team to link product design to manufacturing. 
  • digital team to support implementation and management of software processes.

What You Will Achieve

Over the next year, we will go from design strategy to execution. For this role, the milestones are as follows:

  • After 3 months you will be up to speed on all facets of the kit of parts assemblies and proto-model designs and able to review concept designs and provide comments with support from the Product Design Team.
  • After 6 months you will be assisting in management of our BIM and product management platforms and able to review concept designs and provide comments with limited support from the Product Design Team.
  • After 12 months you will assist in the design management of active building projects. 

What We Expect

Given that this work is anchored in translating architectural designs and products into something we can produce in a factory at scale, being rooted in product design is essential; you will have formal education and training in architectural design with experience or focus in mass timber. Direct experience working on commercial and multi-family residential design, as well as advanced BIM management, is highly valuable.
