Team/Department Description:

The Auctane Software Development team is empowered with enhancing, modifying, and maintaining features and functionality associated with the Auctane suite of software products.                   

 Strategic Imperative:

The Director of SRE and Data role is critical to the platform. These applications include Windows, Mac and Web based clients in addition to API Integrations that allow users, customers and partners to simultaneously generate postage in near real time. It is equally critical to ensure data quality and integrity throughout the platform and constantly enhance security protocols.

 Primary Objectives:

  1. Strategic direction and responsibility for:
    1. Overall reliability, scalability and availability of Auctane suite of products.
    2. DevOps Pipelines and developer experience in relation to infrastructure
    3. Continuous improvement of CI/CD pip
    4. Data retention and archiving strategy, as well as initiatives to modernize solutions
  2. Staff Management and Development.

Essential Position Duties (typical monthly, weekly, daily tasks which support the primary objectives):

  • Management of several software teams including SRE, DevOPs, database, and more as new areas are pursued.
  • Coaching and development of staff including best practices in functional areas
  • Overseeing initiatives to ensure they meet internal standards for quality, responsiveness and time to market
  • Providing technical recommendations for the company’s tool and technology choices
  • Interfacing with Product to fully understand functional requirements of proposed products and features.
  • Providing technical expertise to fully support the company’s portfolio and analyze that of other companies in the industry.
  • Encouraging and participating in the innovation of new technologies and products.

Required Education and/or Experience:                                                  

  • Bachelor’s of Science or equivalent experience
  • Eight or more (8+) years’ experience in SaaS software delivery
  • Minimum of Two (2) years’ experience directly managing a production facing infrastructure, devops, and reliability engineering group, with direct responsibility for managing staff.

Skills and Knowledge:

  • Ability to communicate complex ideas in a progressive, linear and easy-to-follow manner
  • Ability to fully understand the system architecture and communicate specific details about it to team members as needed
  • Enthusiasm for system architecture and personnel management
  • Ability to manage multiple simultaneous projects
  • Excellent time management skills
  • An ability to maintain composure in crisis situations
  • A clear understanding of project management concepts and processes
  • A direct and open style of communication that leads to full transparency
  • Excellent written and oral communication including the ability to speak to large groups of people
  • A clear understanding of how product quality is defined, measured and verified

Computer/Software/Application Proficiency:                                         

  • Jira, Confluence
  • AWS / GCP / Public Cloud
  • DevOps Pipeline tools - such as Jenkins, CircleCI
  • Working knowledge of SQL, Stored Procedures and Replication Technologies
  • Platform Design and Architecture

Additional Management Responsibilities:

  • Performance Management: setting and managing goals, on-going coaching, corrective action, annual reviews, rewards/recognition, and team/individual development
  • Employee Life Cycle Management: headcount forecasting, job descriptions, recruiting/hiring, termination
  • Governance: ensuring compliance to company policy/practice (e.g. attendance, behavior, workplace attire), ensuring compliance to employment law (e.g. time keeping, anti-harassment and diversity)
  • Leadership: ensures availability to staff, team building, building rapport with individuals, encouraging strong collaborative relationships between individuals and departments, facilitating a healthy work/life mix, solicits and applies feedback (internal and external to team), self-improvement as a leader/manager of people
  • Culture Ambassador: proactively demonstrate and cultivate a culture of cooperative collaboration, strong work ethic, solutions-orientation, quality focus, results-orientation, relaxed/enjoyable atmosphere, team- and individual- celebration, and company/product pride

Travel Requirements:

  • Occasionally, less than 10%.
