Title: Tax Director

Role Description: 

As the Tax Director at ShipBob, you will have the opportunity to manage the development and implementation of critical tax processes and controls, contributing to the company's growth trajectory. 

The Tax Director’s primary responsibility is to guide tax strategy and ensure compliance for the global business, reporting to the Global Controller. The Tax Director is charged with applying knowledge to understand potential tax issues; recognizing and communicating potential risks and regulatory changes; and making top-level tax policy and process decisions across the multiple jurisdictions in which the Company does business. The Tax Director will have ownership of the tax provision and US GAAP accounting for taxes, overseeing both domestic and international tax functions. The Tax Director will have exposure to all aspects of the logistics industry and can expect to develop broad and deep experience in this expanding field.    

What you’ll do: 

  • Develop and implement the organization’s tax strategy and policy and direct the overall planning and compliance function for federal, state, local, and international tax laws. 
  • Manage tax compliance and statutory reporting across all jurisdictions in which ShipBob operates, focusing on US indirect tax, VAT, GST, local tax compliance, and other indirect taxes. 
  • Manage the global tax team with a growth mentality, and mentor tax team members to promote a high-performance culture emphasizing collaboration, professional development, and strategic thinking. 
  • Steer transfer pricing planning and administration for existing and new entities and locations, ensuring compliance with regulations. 
  • Plan, design, and monitor tax controls, ensuring robust processes and compliance measures are in place including evaluating the need for tax software and solutions. 
  • Own tax planning initiatives to optimize the Company's tax assets and ensure an effective tax rate, collaborating with third-party advisors. 
  • Demonstrate comprehensive knowledge of US tax regulations and exhibit expertise in a range of tax domains, including US federal tax and GAAP accounting. 
  • Demonstrate a deep understanding of tax accounting principles and regulations across various jurisdictions, staying updated on the latest developments and best practices. 
  • Build and maintain solid working relationships with internal partners and peers, and external consultants and statutory auditors, 
  • Manage outsourced tax advisors and related functions. 
  • Additional duties and responsibilities as necessary. 

What you’ll bring to the table: 

  • Minimum 10+ years of U.S. federal, state and international corporate tax experience, either in-house with U.S. multinational corporations or in public accounting, preferably Big Four. 
  • Bachelor’s degree in tax or equivalent; CPA, Masters in tax or J.D. in tax preferred. 
  • Expertise in US tax regulations including indirect taxes and experience with global tax matters with a solid knowledge of current tax rules, U.S. GAAP and SEC reporting. 
  • Broad understanding of U.S. corporate tax law with ability to develop tax strategy globally. 
  • Experience with designing and executing safe tax and related compliance methodologies consistent with the law in all jurisdictions. 
  • Behavior skill set:

    • Focus to deliver complete results and meet deadlines. 
    • Capacity to manage multiple projects on an ongoing basis.  
    • Creativity in reducing complexities and simplifying processes.

    • Ability to work collaboratively with teams from many countries and cultures. 
    • Resilience and patience in working on iterative and complex projects. 
    • Nimbleness in learning and incorporating new business information and knowledge into finance and accounting planning and compliance. 

ShipBob believes in transparency while providing a competitive total compensation package with a pay for performance approach. The expected base pay range for this position is $145,616- $242,694.
