Position Overview

ShapeTX is looking for a highly motivated individual with a strong passion for learning to join the growing Research team as Scientist/Senior Scientist, AAV Analytics and Purification. In this role, the successful candidate will design and execute experiments to develop analytical and purification methods for AAV to support the early research pipeline and ShapeTX’s novel RNAfixTM and RNAskipTM technology platforms. An ideal candidate will have broad biochemical expertise, hands on experience with viral vectors, a depth of knowledge about chromatography and a collaborative spirit with a desire to work in a fast-paced startup environment.

What You’ll Do:

  • Design and execute experiments to identify purification methods or critical quality attributes for AAV
  • Conceptualize and develop analytical methods for AAV
  • Use biochemical or chromatography-based techniques to purify and isolate viral particles
  • Design and develop analytical methods to assess purity, quality and functionality of AAV particles
  • Collaborate cross functionally to deliver virus for functional use
  • Implement new technologies to advance purification and analytical procedures as needed
  • Analyze and communicate results in written and oral presentations

What You Bring:

Preferred Qualifications:

  • PhD in molecular/Cellular biology or other relevant scientific discipline
  • BS/MS in molecular/cellular biology or other relevant scientific discipline +10-20 years of experience in an industry setting
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team-science environment
  • Ability to think outside the box and tackle challenges with a problem-solving, can-do attitude

Skills and Experience:

  • Experience with basic biochemical methods (AmSO4 precipitation, PEG precipitation, chloroform extraction)
  • Experience with ultracentrifugation for separation of viral particles
  • Experience with molecular biology techniques such as qPCR for viral titer assessment
  • Experience with protein analysis techniques (ELISA, Western blotting, etc.)
  • Extensive experience using chromatography equipment and associated software (AKTA, Agilent, Unicorn/Chemstation)

The salary range for the Scientist role is $96,000-$144,000, and the salary range for the Senior Scientist role is $108,000-$162,000. The hired applicant's placement within the range is based on qualifications and professional experience. Additional compensation may include annual target bonus and/or sign-on bonus, equity grant and relocation bonus.
