My client, one of the oldest and largest institutional investors in the blockchain industry, is seeking a Chief Marketing Officer
They are looking for a crypto-native, bold, marketer who can develop, oversee, and execute brand initiatives that speak to the wider audience inclusive of founders, investors, crypto users and the general public. The successful candidate will partner with executive-level leaders across the firm to develop and direct initiatives that strengthen the integrity, visibility, and differentiation of the brand.
Marketing and Communications
  • Manage a distributed team of Content Writers and Marketing Managers
  • Work with executives to understand the firm’s mission, goals, and outcomes, and develop a marketing strategy that reflects those priorities and accomplishments. 
  • Serve as a culture carrier and thoughtful leader that can attract, develop, and retain top talent
  • Establish and manage annual marketing and communications budget
  • Ensure a robust, proactive digital and social media presence that maintains the integrity and consistency of all communications and content
  • Collaborate on investor and founder engagement strategies, leveraging CRM, digital marketing, and other key tools to manage, optimize, and track the effectiveness of such strategies or initiatives
  • Launch strategic initiatives that proactively build our client's brand and storytelling, centered around their founder-first mission and values, our firm’s value-add, and the success of our 200+ founders
Public Relations
  • Strengthen our client's media presence across print, online, and broadcast channels 
  • Manage a robust network of media partners, journalists, and editors to engage with the brand and their portfolio on key announcements, messaging, and brand
  • Ensure their brand identity and reputation are protected and portrayed accurately and consistently in the public sphere
  • Mobilize the leadership and investment team, as needed, to respond rapidly and effectively to time-sensitive media matters
  • Work with Public Relations partners to secure key speaking engagements for members of their team and their portfolio companies
  • Oversee the full lifecycle of content marketing, from strategy and planning to publishing, distribution, analytics, measurement, and optimization
  • Supervise day-to-day operations of our Content team, coordinating the execution and delivery of content across internal and external contributors
  • Leverage our Investment team’s expertise to align themes and areas of interest with the brand's status as a thought leader in our field
  • Create a culture of excellence, elevating our content production standards and integrating metrics into editorial decision-making to align content creation with the firm’s strategic goals

The Right Person for This Role:
  • Is a crypto-native or deeply crypto-curious communications and marketing expert with a solid pulse on what is relevant in the crypto ecosystem and its broader cultural context
  • Loves crafting narratives and messaging that sit at the intersection of early-stage technology, emergent culture, and disruptive business models
  • Is highly intellectually curious and committed to excellence; never settles for good enough
  • Is a concise thinker, speaker, storyteller, and writer; able to distill a narrative from a complex dataset that is compelling and engaging
  • Is both creative and a data-driven, analytical thinker; loves testing, iterating, and taking calculated risks
  • Is a rigorous, detail-oriented project manager 
  • Is a fantastic partner who leads through collaboration 
  • Always focuses on the big picture and considers the knock-on effects of a given initiative
Required Qualifications
  • 8-10+ years of leadership experience in Brand Marketing, Brand Management, B2C and B2B Marketing, and Communications
  • Strong interpersonal and partnership skills; ability to work effectively with stakeholders and colleagues at all levels
  • Proven executive-level communication skills and presence
  • Ability to quickly learn and understand the VC business model, how to support the firm’s goals and direction, and how to speak to its various stakeholder audiences 
  • Self-directed ability to take initiative, operate with minimal oversight, and achieve buy-in from stakeholders across various groups of the firm
  • Ability to implement change and be proactive in a fast-paced environment 
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution
  • Experience working in the financial services or technology industry
Preferred Qualifications
  • 12-15+ years of professional experience
  • Experience working in venture capital, in a bleeding-edge technology sector, or at a high-growth startup
