About The Role

Reporting to the Vice President, Finance & Business Operations, the Associate Director/Director of Financial Planning and Analysis will be a critical leader within our finance team and a key business partner for leadership and for all functional areas within the Company. With responsibility for overseeing the financial forecasting, budgeting, long-range planning and financial modeling that supports strategic and management decisions, this role is a key contributor to achieving our strategic objectives and ensuring we are effectively resourced for operations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the development and execution of annual budgeting, quarterly financial forecasting and long-range planning that align with company strategic and operational goals.
  • Monitor and analyze the trend and variance on headcount, operating expenses and cash burn. Manage the process to assess deviations in the budget and conduct detailed monthly and quarterly financial reviews to senior leadership team and functional managers.
  • Develop financial models and scenario analyses to support strategic business initiatives and business development activities.
  • Prepare presentations to Board of Directors and Senior Management Team regarding financial planning and performance.
  • Team with accounting to ensure the accuracy of expense accruals and revenue recognition.  Provide timely analysis to support compliance with tax authority and financial reporting requirements.
  • Select and implement an appropriate budgeting and forecasting system to support a robust and matrixed financial planning function.
  • Partner with project management and R&D department leaders to support overall portfolio and departmental goals.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree is required.
  • 8+ years of experience in financial planning and analysis. Previous experience in a biotech or pharmaceuticals company is a must.
  • Advanced Microsoft Office skills; experience in financial planning software (e.g., Adaptive Planning, Hyperion, etc) is highly desired.
  • Excellent communication skills and analytical skills, strong cross functional leadership skills and experience in organizational management.
  • Attention to detail, the ability to multi-task and work under tight deadlines.
  • This is an onsite position with flexibility of working from home occasionally.

The anticipated salary range for candidates who will work in South San Francisco, CA is $220,000 - $225,000. Individual pay may vary based on additional factors, including, and without limitation, job-related skills, experience, work location and relevant education or training. Septerna's compensation package also includes benefits, stock options, and annual target bonus for full-time positions.
