Our Journey:

Since 2014, Sendwave has allowed diaspora members from across Africa and Asia to send money abroad fast, saving our users over 70% relative to Western Union and MoneyGram. We’re coming off our biggest year ever, where we enabled over 30 million transactions on behalf of the diaspora communities we serve.

Despite the amazing growth, we’re still less than 1% of the global remittance market. If we want to make sending money anywhere in the world as easy and affordable as sending a text, we’ve got to scale even faster. That’s where you come in.

How you'll help us achieve it

The Risk team’s mission is to prevent, detect and minimize a variety of fraud threats to Sendwave and our customers. Our ultimate goal is to ensure that customers using the platform have a smooth experience, while we detect and deter patterns of abuse. A large part of what we do is find stolen carding schemes, identity theft, account takeovers, and false dissatisfaction claims through modeling and threat hunting. Ideally, we identify fraudsters before they even transact. Your mission is to help build the risk frameworks that allow us to give those diasporas the seamless user experience they deserve whilst ensuring bad actors are kept at bay. To accomplish this, you’ll be participating in complex threat hunts through the use of big data, conducting impact analysis on proposed and deployed heuristic rulesets, and participating in Risk Operations monitoring and response procedures.

In this role, you’ll:

  • Work with Risk, Operations, Security, and Compliance teams to understand emerging threats, customer experience impacts, query data to attribute fraud actors, and prioritize data model enhancements.
  • Need to be able to dig in and understand the underlying science behind our heuristics and models, and work together with our engineers to formulate scientifically-sound key performance indicators.

Furthermore, this role is expected to grow as the organization matures and develops custom abuse-preventing features and Risk Operations process enhancements. The ideal candidate will have extensive hands-on experience as an independent contributor to robust analytics programs and technical depth to understand commonly logged attributes at an app-native organization. Fraud/Operations experience is preferred.

Example First 3 Months:

Month 1: Onboard and learn the Sendwave Risk and Fraud-prevention program, attend a company-wide global meetup

Month 2: Integrate self into Risk-Operations processes and learn our complex breadth of data with an analysis project

Month 3: Own a new fraud defense strategy and watch your analysis recommendations deliver impactful results
