Our Mission

In 2019, immigrants worldwide sent over $550 billion home to family and friends, dwarfing foreign governmental aid. In the age of cheap, quick transfers through services like Paypal and Venmo, these people are trekking to stores to pay fees averaging over 7% for transfers that typically take 24 hours or more.

Sendwave's mission is to change that by making sending money anywhere in the world easy and affordable. Since 2014, our app has allowed diaspora members from across Africa — and more recently the Philippines and Lebanon— to send money abroad fast, saving our users over 70% relative to Western Union and MoneyGram.

How you'll help us achieve it

Sendwave wouldn’t have made it where it is today without an incredible team of talented people dedicated to the mission and values of the company. As we’ve grown to over 400 people from under 100 in the past two years, many of the processes and systems we put in place are no longer effective at our current scale. We’re looking for a strong owner with a passion for making teams succeed to view Sendwave’s employees as their user and our culture and systems as their product and make sure we deliver - no previous people/HR experience required.

In this role, you will:

  • Spearhead major people initiatives like compensation overhaul and building psychological safety from ideation through execution.
  • Adapt as needed to get things done - sometimes managing people and sometimes working independently, sometimes doing admin work and sometimes doing high-level strategy, and sometimes working within the people organization and sometimes working within other departments - all based on what’s most likely to get results in our most pressing areas of need.
  • Become an expert in whatever you’re working on - we don’t need you to come in with HR experience, actually, we’d rather like a pair of fresh eyes - but once you’re on a project you should dive into the research, meet with experts, and become a trusted source of knowledge in that particular area.
  • Jump in and help other members of the department on their priorities as-needed

  • Compensation: Global: L3, $74,700  L4, $96,000 | US: L3, $93,325 - L4, $120,000
  • Location: Our company is 100% remote. You can be based anywhere in the the United States, Canada, United Kingdom, France, Germany, Belgium, Poland, Kenya, Rwanda, Senegal or South Africa. We will consider contractors in countries not listed on a case-by-case basis.

  • Exemplary track-record of being a leader who gets things done. We’re talking entrepreneurs, teachers, class presidents, sports team captains, military officers, etc - you know the type.
  • At least five years in the full-time workforce (diverse experience like military service, teaching, professional sports, etc all counts)
  • Demonstrated curiosity about motivation, team-building, equity, bias, and learning

  • Our team of over 400 employees are fully distributed across the world— working from coffee shops, homes, and coworking spaces — making us one of the larger fully distributed growth-stage startups in the world.
  • We are proud parents, community organizers, farmers, play in bands, teach yoga , moonlight as YouTube influencers, are former Olympians, and serial entrepreneurs.
