The Position: 

As a member of Senda Biosciences’ Discovery team, the successful Research Associate candidate will apply their experience in molecular methods and assay development, along with their knowledge of the microbiology, to accelerate Senda’s pioneering work in inter-systems biology. The ideal candidate is someone who possesses a diverse scientific background and is eager to develop new techniques in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.

Responsibilites:  

  • Perform in vitro assays and sample analysis via liquid chromatography-mass specrometry (LC-MS)
  • Prepare compound libraries and assay substrates
  • Isolate nucleic acids from biosamples, primarily from stool and tissue
  • Operate and maintain anaerobic chambers and LC-MS instruments
  • Improve and execute processes for biospecimen processing, aliquoting, tracking, shipping, and receiving
  • Take ownership of biospecimen electronic and physical inventories
  • Maintain a detailed, organized, and updated electronic laboratory notebook
  • Support laboratory maintenance including inventory, reagent preparation, etc

Qualifications: 

  • BA/BS in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Chemical Biology, or a related discipline with 2+ years of professional experience in a laboratory environment, or an MS in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Chemical Biology or a related discipline with 1+ years of professional laboratory experience
  • Experience with assay development including the ability to independently troubleshoot and propose solutions related to assay development and sample analysis
  • Strong organizational and record-keeping skills; and a high level of attention to detail
  • Comfort working with large sample numbers and many biospecimen types
  • Demonstrated experience with microbial cell-culture – anaerobic culture experience preferred

Preferred Experience:

  • Hands on experience with LC-MS analysis including method development, independent operation, instrument maintenance, and data processing
  • Knowledge of the microbiome; and familiarity with human and microbial metabolism
  • Knowledge of drug metabolism and experience with metabolite identification – drug metabolism and pharmacokinetics (DMPK) experience a
  • Experience with high throughput sample handling technologies for analysis
  • Experience in usage and maintenance of anaerobic chambers (Coy Laboratories)
  • Familiarity with standard microbiology and molecular biology practices
  • Experience with other ‘omics technologies, including next generation DNA-Sequencing based technologies
  • Demonstrated ability to perform routine analyses of data, including data visualization
