Position Summary 

As a part of the Senda Biosciences Research and Development team, the (Sr.) Research Associate will be primarily responsible for performing a variety of molecular cloning techniques, culturing, and characterizing microbes. Further, the candidate will assist with in vitro assay development and deployment, including transition to high-throughput scale designs. This individual will be a key member of Senda’s dynamic, expanding, and collaborative team that combines significant experience in microbiome-based taget discovery, microbe-host interactions, drug deployment, and human health to unlock the potential of the company’s core technological platforms. 

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Assist in bacterial cloning workstreams
  • Conduct quantitative molecular biology assays
  • Assist in the production and characterization of microbial products
  • Work with senior research staff to design, execute, and interpret experiments

Required Skills/Experience:

  • MS in a biology or engineering-related field (or BS plus 2 years of experience)
  • Experience working with and cloning in plasmids and bacteria
  • Experience with a subset of the following bacterial cloning technqiues: lambda red recombineering, Gibson assembly, Type II2 restriction cloning, Golden Gate assembly, allelic exchange coloning..ect
  • Experience with microbial culture
  • Familiar with molecular assays: PCR, gel electrophoresis, molecular cloning and sanger sequencing
  • Strong organizational and communication skills
  • Desire to work in a fast-paced and quickly changing environment

Desired Skills/Experience:

  • Experience culturing and cloning in diverse microbial organisms
  • Exerperience with primer design
  • Track record of independent cloning workstreams in the lab
  • Immunostaining for fluorescence microscopy and/or flow cytometry
  • Protein purification
  • Immunoblotting
  • qPCR
