Seldon is looking for an experienced Research Engineer to join our Research and Data Science team. We are focused on making it easy for machine learning models to be deployed and managed at scale in production. We provide Cloud Native products that run on top of Kubernetes and are open-core with several successful open source projects including Seldon Core, Alibi:Explain and Alibi:Detect. Within our Data Science team we work on distilling and conducting research to enable trust in production machine learning systems.

About the role
You will primarily work on our open-source machine learning explainability and monitoring libraries Alibi:Explain and Alibi:Detect. Some initial projects may include:
  • Extending distributed computing capabilities of explanation algorithms using Ray
  • Re-designing our existing libraries to be multi-backend (TensorFlow and PyTorch) compatible

More general responsibilities include:

  • Maintaining and extending Alibi:Explain and Alibi:Detect according to the best practices of software development
  • Working closely with the wider engineering team on requirements for seamless integration with our product
  • Designing, writing and testing new algorithms for Alibi:Explain and Alibi:Detect
  • Supporting research projects in the areas of model explainability, outlier and drift detection, model monitoring and more.
  • Contributing to conferences and talks in the broad area of machine learning monitoring.

Required Qualifications
  • Advanced Python programming experience.
  • TensorFlow or PyTorch experience.
  • A solid foundation in machine learning, including probability and statistics.
  • A degree or higher level academic background in a scientific or engineering subject.
  • At least 2 years of experience in industry or academia showing completed projects.

Desired qualifications:
  • Contributions to open source software (e.g. implementing research papers)
  • Published research papers in machine learning

About our tech stack
Some of our technical projects:
  • We built and maintain the model explainability library Alibi:Explain, and the outlier, drift and adversarial detection toolkit Alibi:Detect.
  • We are core authors and maintainers of Seldon Core, the most popular Open Source model serving solution in the Cloud Native (Kubernetes) ecosystem
  • We run the largest Tensorflow meetup in London
  • And much more!

Benefits
  • London, Cambridge or Remote working available.
  • Share options to align you with the long-term success of the company.
  • Access to discounted lunches, gyms, shopping and cinema tickets.
  • Healthcare benefits.
  • Tier 2 visa support.
  • Cycle To Work Scheme.
Logistics

Our interview process is normally a phone interview, a take-home coding task, and 2-3 hours of final interviews (carried out virtually). We promise not to ask you any brain teasers or trick questions. We might discuss papers or design an algorithm, the same way we often work together, but we won’t make you write code on the spot. Our recruitment process has an average length of 3 weeks.
