We are seeking talented front end engineers to help accelerate our ability to iterate rapidly on our desktop and mobile web experiences by migrating to a well engineered front end architecture.

About us

Secret Escapes is a members-only flash sales business focused on inspirational travel trading in over 20 different countries. We plan to double the size of our development team this year in order to power our mission to become the world’s best.

We are seeking talented front end engineers to help accelerate our ability to iterate rapidly on our desktop and mobile web experiences by migrating to a well engineered front end architecture.

You are a self-starter who enjoys a rapid pace and wants to make a difference.  You need to be comfortable with tackling complexity, championing simplicity and enrolling your colleagues in technical change.

  • Implementation of React Components using our Design Language System as a reference
  • Collaboration with product managers and designers to create prototypes necessary for usability evaluations, A/B and MVT testing and development specifications
  • Helping other developers adopt modern and lean front end engineering practises
  • Integration of our new Front end components to the existing web application
  • Optimisation of javascript build, test and deploy cycles to ensure maximum page load and runtime performance

Role Requirements

  • Strong HTML/CSS/Javascript skills and ability to turn designs to high quality markup and styles
  • Familiarity with modern frameworks, such as React, Angular, and Vue.js
  • Knowledge of component driven Front End development
  • Believer in test driven development and continuous deployment
  • Experience with using A/B tests and user testing to drive product backlogs
  • Comfortable working in distributed teams
  • Jira, Git/Github, Jenkins skills essential
  • Typescript experience a bonus
  • OTA and/or eCommerce experience a bonus

Things you should know about us

We love technology, and our stack proves it. Our new Front End is built using React Components written in Typescript, styling and theming with CSS-in-JS libraries, GraphQL API consuming with Apollo Client, and we use tools that make our lives easier, such as Prettier and Storybook. Our goal for the front end  is to gradually integrate the React components we create to our existing web application which is built on a Groovy (Grails) / MySQL based stack. Our processes are modern and forward thinking, we work in an agile way, follow TDD and deploy to production up to 5 times a day!

We are a multicultural team with team members based in London and Bristol, Berlin, Poznan and Warsaw in Poland, and Skopje (Macedonia).  And yes, there is the opportunity to visit all of these locations! We communicate and collaborate with a variety of tools including Slack and Google Hangouts and love to spend time together as a team both in and out of work.

Continuous improvement is a key principle of the team and it's important that everyone is always improving both technically and professionally. The business provides opportunities to further their career and hone their skills through individual development plans, as well as a generous budget for training.
