About the role
This is an exciting opportunity to join a team at the forefront of artificial intelligence and applied machine learning. At Secondmind we’re developing technologies that can be used across many different domains to enable people to make better decisions.
You will be working in highly collaborative, interdisciplinary teams delivering customer value through the development and refinement of cutting edge ML tools, and the application of these tools to customer problems.
You will be developing our machine learning technologies and guiding their application within customer engagements to deliver completely new solutions in transportation and logistics, the automotive industry and beyond. This means lots of variety and involves working within client projects and internal product development. Your work will be directly used and built upon in our products.
What will you be responsible for?
- Leading multidisciplinary teams to solve novel customer problems through applying and extending our state-of-the-art machine learning techniques
- Working with researchers and platform engineers to migrate research prototypes to production
- Continuously developing your own machine learning and engineering skills and helping others to improve theirs
- Contributing to the company's culture through code reviews and design discussions
In your role as a Senior Machine Learning Engineer, the defining measure of your success is being able to successfully solve novel real-world problems through using our ML technologies in a manner that is robust and creative, as well as having the potential to be scalable.
What skills, experience, and qualifications do you need to succeed in this role?
As an expert in building complex systems, you will be responsible for identifying how to best design, develop and deploy our ML technology to allow our customers to make better decisions. You will enjoy solving novel technical problems, and be able to share this enthusiasm with your team.
You will be someone who has industry experience working in software engineering, data science or machine learning, and strong appreciation of all three areas. This will include deep knowledge of at least one programming language (e.g. Python or C++). You will have an ability to successfully communicate across different technical areas.
You will have previously worked on customer projects and be comfortable with consulting with project stakeholders. You will have the trust and autonomy to plan your work independently, taking into account the requirements of your team and the project work. Where you see space for improvements, we’ll encourage you to highlight these and make them happen.
You will ideally hold a Bachelors (and potentially a Masters) in computer science, software engineering, statistics, machine learning or other numerate fields. Other degrees will be considered with relevant work experience.
You will be someone who actively improves your technical knowledge, either through identifying relevant courses and conferences, or pursuing self-study as needed. We encourage sharing knowledge throughout the team through internal seminars, lightning talks, and participating in training activities.
