Mechanical Engineer at Scythe
You’ll be working with the engineering team as a mechanical design engineer to further improve the M.52 mower and make it a more robust and reliable product. As our product gets put into the hands of more customers, we need to ensure that each generation is improved and meeting the high standards we set for ourselves. This role will be directly helping with that goal by designing and developing the mechanical parts for the machine all while ensure that the necessary requirements from all parties are being considered.
We expect you to be broadly experienced to be able to “see around corners”, to thrive in a fast-paced, self-managed engineering environment, and to be a collaborative, low-ego teammate who helps Scythe realize its big mission.
What you’ll do at Scythe
- Discuss and generate component designs with internal departments, balancing needs of customer specification and functionality with manufacturing/cost implications.
- Design and develop mechanical parts and fixtures for the machine that will eventually be manufactured at a high volume.
- Work directly with vendors to source off the shelf parts or develop custom components
- Work with Test / PVV (Product Verification and Validation) to test and deploy new hardware
- Develop rapid life cycle testing methodologies
- Create and maintain bill of materials to track product life cycle.
- Help develop and document efficient processes for product management, ECOs (Engineering Change Orders), etc.
- Lift or move objects up to 50 pounds during development assembly
What you know well
- Proficient using 3D CAD software (preferably Solidworks)
- DFM (Design for Manufacturing) including welding, machining, sheet metal bending, and other fabrication processes.
- Strong written and verbal communication
What you’ve maybe done
- Fastener selection experience including torque, vibration, and environmental conditions
- Engineering analysis including FEA (Finite Element Analysis) and frequency analysis
- Solidworks PDM (Product Data Management) tool
- Hands-on hardware experience
- Worked on designing and drafting cables
- Drafting standards including GD&T
- Rapid life cycle test development
- Data processing & analysis using: Python, MatLab, or other data processing tools
- Experience working with electromechanical and mechatronic systems

Scythe is a total compensation company, which provides employees a comprehensive salary, equity, and benefit package. However, only the minimum salary amounts are listed here. Scythe carefully considers a wide range of compensation factors, including education, years of experience, competencies and other relevant business considerations. These considerations can cause your compensation to vary along with your compensation mode preferences. The Mechanical Engineer I position has an expected minimum annual cash salary of $75,000. The actual pay may be higher depending on your skills, qualifications, and experience. Equity and benefits packages are NOT included in this estimate. Please note that this information is provided for those hired in Colorado only, and this role is open to candidates outside of Colorado as well.
