About the Role & Team

The Vice President, Design and User Experience, reports directly to the Chief Technology Officer of PENN Entertainment and is responsible for visual, interaction, and motion design across the entire consumer and enterprise portfolios for PENN Interactive. This opportunity is uniquely positioned to immediately impact the next generation of PENN’s interactive experiences. They lead a team of designers & design leaders specializing in user experience, motion, visual and content design, user experience research & UI engineering. This candidate will partner with the company's digital product and engineering teams and stakeholders to design strategic solutions that will win in the marketplace and the workplace. The VP, Design & User Experience will set the vision and be responsible for the execution and delivery models of the group. This leader must have a strong senior presence, communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders, and foster a can-do culture that aligns resources, priorities, and processes for success.  

About the Work

  • This role does not just create experiences for existing product roadmaps; rather, expected to generate never before seen experiences through innovation by managing visual design, user experience, enterprise tools, and communications resources.
  • Drive overall design philosophy and best-in-class design systems that lead to world-class consumer products.
  • You will lead strategy and roadmap for the unified design framework, ensuring Top Tier quality and capabilities across our product portfolio.
  • Manage a world-class portfolio of components, including design tools, functional code systems, documentation, and Brand Guidelines.
  • Drive communications and reporting activities across the organization, providing hands-on leadership for the ideation, creative concept development, and execution of strategic initiatives in partnership with executive leadership.
  • Utilize effective leadership practices to attract and retain top talent at all levels and develop a world-class Design and User Experience organization.
  • Provides leadership to Design and User Experience – prioritize goals, provide guidance and development for the team, and create cohesive working relationships company-wide.
  • Other duties as required.

About You

  • 15+ years of experience in a design leadership role building a high-performing design team and high-quality products at scale.
  • BS or BA Degree in a relevant discipline.
  • Demonstrated experience in building and maintaining successful, influential working relationships at all levels of an organization 
  • Pioneering, innovative thinker with the ability to anticipate and lead capabilities that will enable PENN’s growth amidst rapid change.
  • Ability to motivate and collaborate in a highly matrixed environment.
  • Ability to channel different points of view; establish and maintain excellent relationships and credibility quickly; create a team atmosphere while achieving key objectives.
  • Experience with management of remote work groups.
  • Proven experience in Product Design, having a background in building B2C mobile products in an agile environment. 
  • Ability to seamlessly flip between the language of business and design, setting meaningful goals and objectives for your team, while advocating for important design decisions to company leadership.
  • History of diving into the research and analytics to help define the direction of the product. 
  • Excellent communication, leadership and collaboration skills, with the ability to critically think and solve problems with cross-functional teams, and always considering the business side of design to further the strategy of the company. 
  • Experience in creating a positive, inclusive, and collaborative environment for designers to do their best work.
