About the Role & Team
The design system team’s mission is to deliver an internal product that will make the lives of our designers and other engineers better. We are a unique team in the company in that we are comprised equally of designers and engineers across all front end platforms (web, native iOS, and native Android). Our design system is called Alley-oop and we are striving to build this tool from the ground up to help improve efficiency, consistency, and quality of life across the organization. We are looking for a senior web engineer to help drive best practices both within our team as well as advocacy to the greater web community within the company. One of the company’s goals for this year is to show that we can start leveraging our design system to enable server driven UI across our applications. This position will provide the opportunity to make a significant impact across all engineering teams within the company.
About the Work
As a key member of our design system team you will:
- Help lead the technical development and evolution of our design system, ensuring it meets the needs of various product teams and adheres to best practices in web development.
- Collaborate closely with designers, product managers, and other engineers to implement and maintain design system components and patterns.
- Drive the adoption of the design system across product teams, providing guidance, support, and documentation as needed.
- Continuously optimize the performance, accessibility, and usability of design system components to enhance the overall user experience.
- Stay up-to-date with the latest trends and technologies in web development and design systems, incorporating relevant advancements into our practices and processes.
- Showcase web best practices to solve complex implementation challenges across multiple applications and brands.
- Other duties as required.
About You
- A solid foundation in computer science, with strong competencies in data structures, distributed systems, algorithms, and software design.
- Experience building and maintaining design systems.
- Experience with frontend technologies (TypeScript, React, GraphQL, Jest, e2e testing, build tools).
- Experience with Server-driven UI an asset.
- You understand that taking the time to understand the problem and do something properly can end up saving time in the long run.
- You’re a curious person who loves to deep dive into the internals of different libraries.
- You love to keep up to date with web technologies and sharing what you learn with teammates.
- You’re a great communicator, both verbal and written.
- You’re an awesome person who values strong relationships with your colleagues.
