About School in the Square: School in the Square (S2) is a vibrant charter network in the Washington Heights and Inwood community. Our mission is to engage, educate and empower adolescents in Washington Heights and Inwood to respond mindfully and creatively to life’s opportunities and challenges. 

S2 is currently undergoing an expansion process as we plan to expand from an elementary school and middle school to an early childhood center and high school for the 2024 - 2025 school year. In order to build a community that aligns with our core values in these two new schools, we need a strong Director of Enrollment to drive community engagement and awareness of our school network.

Job Description: The Director of Enrollment will develop and lead a strategy for student recruitment and enrollment across our PreK-12 grade span. The DE reports to the Executive Director of School in the Square and oversees a growing team of a Recruitment Coordinator and additional auxiliary staff in marketing/communications. They will closely collaborate with the Chief Programs and Engagement Officer. Together, the Director of Enrollment and the community engagement directors, will observe, brainstorm, and enact creative solutions in the hypercompetitive landscape. Developing the strategy will also require coordination with the Senior Leadership Team, teachers, students, families and the Washington Heights and Inwood community at large. The Director of Enrollment must be proficient in data analysis, so that they can accurately track enrollment efforts, make data-driven decisions, and pivot in the current changing enrollment landscape. 

Core Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement a phased, multi-year strategy, reflecting what S2 needs to accomplish to successfully reach target enrollment goals, including
    • Generation and engagement of leads and applications
    • Conversion of leads and applications to enrolled students
    • Retain enrolled students at critical milestones
    • Lottery and waitlist management
    • Mobilization of current families to aid in these efforts
    • Collaboration with school leadership in goal setting, problem solving, and recruitment & enrollment support
  • Establish streamlined information systems in order to define and analyze the data needed to drive enrollment strategy
  • Track and evaluate the effectiveness of enrollment practices over student time at the network and guide team to make evidence-based decisions 
  • Ensure an inclusive, engaging and high-performing team where people thrive
  • Contribute to the seamless integration and implementation of both in-person and virtual recruitment
  • Collaborate with the engagement team to integrate media efforts into recruitment & enrollment strategies
  • Lead communication of vision and progress of enrollment work to staff across the organization
  • Stay informed on latest enrollment trends and strategies, and evaluate against historic trends and strategies, to shape S2’s recruitment efforts 
  • Develop and lead the student recruitment and enrollment budget

Who You Are:

  • Experienced as a full-time effective, impactful director with six year experience working with families and a minimum of three years of demonstrated success developing and implementing enrollment strategy.
  • A strategic, solutions-focused thinker with strong communication and planning skills
  • A strong relationship builder, you get personal fulfillment by collaborating with families, students, and colleagues 
  • A strong believer in anti-racist education, culturally responsive and sustaining pedagogy, trauma-informed practices
  • Skilled and analytical with the ability to gather and analyze data extracting insights and reporting
  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Biliterate in Spanish preferred

Expected salary range for this role is $110,00 - $140,000, depending on experience, level of education, required certifications, internal equity, and the budgeted amount for the role.
