The Role

We are excited to offer an opportunity for talented students to join the internship program at Schonfeld. You’ll spend ten weeks within an experienced accounting team within the Schonfeld Accounting division where you will be immersed in the culture and atmosphere of Schonfeld, working alongside talented professionals on high profile projects.

Accountants at Schonfeld take on a wide range of responsibilities and challenges. They assist with monitoring and maintaining appropriate financial controls, policies and procedures to support existing operations and continued growth of the firm. 

You may help with the following projects:

  • Design & develop shared resources to streamline workflows of the various Accounting Sub-Groups (Compensation Accounting, Fund Accounting, Business Analytics, P&L Valuations, Management Accounting & Tax)
  • Document detailed workflow between sub-groups to identify areas of improvement & potential synergy
  • Specific projects assigned by various sub-groups

What you’ll do

The Accounting intern will shadow various members from the different Accounting Sub-Groups to understand the core goals & responsibilities of the wider accounting team which include but are not limited to, daily performance reporting, month end payout estimate calculation & final month end Portfolio Manager (“PM”) Statements. Working with the various sub-groups will allow the candidate to get a high-level view of the lifecycle of a PM and how it translates into performance and the subsequent necessary reporting. It will also allow the candidate to focus on granular workflows & contribute to streamlining & improving them.

What you’ll need

  • Enrolled in 4-year Accounting/Finance/Business Program
  • Strong working knowledge using Excel (pivot tables, sumifs, index match, etc.) VBA is a plus
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to work with large sets of data
  • Excellent communication skills; ability to articulate issues and solutions to different audiences
  • Demonstrate sensitivity and judgement in handing confidential information
  • Process and detail oriented with a strong work ethic and team focused attitude
  • Able to adapt to frequent changes in the business operating environment
  • Highly organized and self-motivated
  • An analytical mindset and an ability to come up with solutions to problems you encounter

Our internship
The Schonfeld summer internship provides students with a unique opportunity to experience Schonfeld, our work, our people, and our culture.  Each summer intern will work on a tailored project that will provide them with real world experience.  We provide all interns with a dedicated mentor and manager to help them navigate the summer successfully. Interns will also participate in our learning program, the Sapphire: Summer Session, which aims to provide tangible skills training and education on various functions across the firm and in the workplace.

Along with the hands-on guidance and support from managers and mentors, interns will participate in weekly networking events, engage with our Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Alliance, attend panel discussions, and have many opportunities to get to know Schonfeld’s core values in practice.

The annual base pay for this role is expected to be between $45,000 and $52,000 which will be prorated based on internship start and end date. The expected base pay range is based on information at the time this post was generated. Actual compensation for the successful candidate will be determined based on a variety of factors such as skills, qualifications and experience and level of education.
