What's the Short Version?
The Assistant Technical Designer is responsible for supporting the Technical Design team in daily tasks related to garment fit and measurement specifications for an assigned category. They work on all product types to ensure that the product design meets fit, style and quality standards in a timely manner. A successful Assistant Technical Designer adjusts to changing priorities, shows attention to detail, and is open to any project while learning the Technical Design phase of the product creation process and helping Technical Designers interface with all cross functional teams.
What Will You Be Doing?
- Understand and apply standard fit specifications within each category and/or product group to ensure consistency throughout product lines.
- Measure proto samples to ensure accuracy from vendors.
- Assist Technical Designers prepare documentation of sample evaluations including sample measurements and construction, pattern reviews in paper format or E-pattern format, and fit session comments.
- Support Technical Designers to develop or revise patterns from any changes by utilizing Gerber Accumark pattern making system.
- Review and fit samples on models – provide support for fit recommendations to Design, Development, and Merchandising teams.
- Coordinate fit sessions including model selection, scheduling, and model management.
- Create/update the tech pack under Technical Designer’s direction.
- Update sketches in Adobe illustrator program to keep the most current sketches in tech pack.
- Assist Technical Designers in documentation for assigned styles; tech pack, fit approval rates, and sample tracking reports.
- Create detailed construction drawing in Illustrator as needed to communicate design details and construction to factories and team members.
- Compile Technical Design work process documents to make a Technical Design manual for supplier training.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Comply with all policies and standards.
What Are We Looking For?
- 1-3 years of related experience in Apparel/Textile design or equivalent education.
- Experience with Gerber Accumark pattern making system is preferred.
- Knowledge of garment construction, material construction and properties, and patternmaking.
- Adequate skills and understanding of garment sewing processes.
- Understanding of the design and development process from inception through production.
- Knowledge of garment fit and the ability to give instructions on necessary changes to a pattern to influence the fit.
- Strong information seeking and problem-solving skills.
- Strong time management and organizational skills.
- Attention to detail and the ability to communicate written and verbal information clearly and effectively.
What's Our Offer?
Salary Range: You`ll earn between $25.00 - $33.65 on an hourly basis, depending on experience.
Bonus: You`ll be eligible for an annual discretionary bonus up to 5% of base salary.
Paid Time Off: You`ll accrue paid time off on a weekly basis based on hours worked up to 112 hours per year to start. Employees also receive 8 paid holidays and 1 paid family day off.

Hybrid: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to use hands to finger, handle or feel. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Work environment is moderately quiet. Ability to work on computer for multiple hours with frequent interruptions.
SanMar's Eastpointe office is located near Seattle, WA and our standard working hours are 8:00-5:00 PST. Quarterly travel may be required.
