About The Role
As a Detox Nurse, you will join a medical and clinical team that provides a high level of medical care to clients in an in-patient or detox hospital treatment program. You will perform nursing duties and act as a medical resource and support to Addiction Technicians as needed. You will also help create a safe and stable environment for clients that are actively intoxicated or feeling symptoms of withdrawal. Additionally, you will support medication administration, urinalysis, breathalyzer tests, and documentation.
As a PRN Detox Nurse You Will:
- Partner with clients as you inspire and empower change and contribute to a high-performing culture.
- Ensure quality performance by adhering to all aspects of the program’s policies and procedures and assisting the Performance Improvement Committee in any quality improvements that may be necessary.
- Manage and administer medication according to physician orders and in accordance with facility policy and educate clients on their medication.
- Maintain accurate and current patient records in electronic healthcare software system.
- Complete intake assessments and other required documentation upon admission
- Oversee and support Addiction Technicians in their work and responsibilities related to client care.
- Monitor and observe clients upon admission, managing any medical challenges within the scope of your license, and contacting physician when appropriate for best client care.
- Support clients that are actively intoxicated, experiencing symptoms of withdrawal, or facing any emerging situations
- Monitor/observe and document Urinalysis or Breathalyzer tests as needed.
- Monitor and document client vital signs, physical condition, and behaviors as part of the program structure and communicate any observed medical complications or signs of distress to the medical team.
- Dispose of biohazard waste according to OSHA standards and practice OSHA safety standards and universal precautions
- Employ behavioral management techniques and apply techniques for the prevention of therapeutic holding procedures, monitoring for sharps and contraband to ensure a safe environment.
- Be familiar with basic safety and rescue procedures relative to outdoor activities and while at the facility.
Training & Experience:
- Active RN or LPN License in Virginia or Compact Licensure
- Minimum 6 Months of Experience: Your past experiences in acute care or behavioral health settings have equipped you with the knowledge and skills to excel in this role.
- Familiarity with Medications: You're not just familiar with medications commonly used in a detox setting; you're also well-versed in their potential side effects. Your expertise ensures the safety and comfort of our clients.
- Excellent Assessment and Critical Thinking Skills

- Blood Draws: As part of your role, all nurses must be capable of conducting blood draws. This skill is vital in our mission to provide the highest level of care.
