What You’ll Do
Samsung Display’s America R&D Lab located in San Jose, California, is recruiting for a knowledgeable, self-driven contributing scientist skilled in vision and color science. This individual will be in a high-visibility position that will make a huge impact on HDR color modeling, characterizing and explaining visual effects seen in revolutionary technology displays. We study not just our own but new technologies in displays of any size and shape. At SDAL, we enjoy a small team environment based in San Jose, CA, in concert with AMOLED display experts at the world leader of displays, Samsung Display Company, headquartered in Giheung-gu, Korea. Travel opportunities abound in order to present research at conferences and work with experts at SDC, our customers and experts at leading standards bodies. Video and remote work is also within our spirit of collaboration now and in the future.
As a color science expert, you will advance color modeling of any and all high-dynamic range displays. Further, you will promote your own research in this area to increase industry acceptance and help design product certification programs.
As a vision science expert, you will investigate modeling of stereoscopic and light field display behavior regarding perceptual factors and user preferences.
Location: Hybrid, working onsite at our San Jose, CA headquarters 3 days a week, with the flexibility to work remotely the remainder of your time.

- Work with team members to contribute towards moving forward a color model based on the most up-to-date science and international standards from CIE and others standards bodies or industry trade groups.
- This position offers a number of outlets for publications in conferences, journals and within standardization bodies at the world level. We support a regular publication cycle to peer-reviewed journals and display-related conferences.
- Lead human factors research to validate modeling and characterize new 3D display technology.
What You Bring
- Bachelors with 10+ years of relevant industry experience, or Masters with 8+ years or PhD with 5+ years in Color Science, Vision Science, Physics, Electrical Engineering or related field preferred.
- PhD 2 to 8 years related industry experience.
- Good analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication.
- Familiarity with color standards and models including CIE 15, CIE 159, Rec. ITU-R BT.2020 and related ITU-R reports.
- Knowledge of machine learning is a plus.
- Strong foundation in mathematics and signal processing.
- Strong programming experience in Matlab and Python, program knowledge of C, C++ is a good plus.
