Position Summary:

In this position, you’ll serve as a lead for the design group (part of the larger UX team). This will entail ensuring that all designs from the design group are delivered on time, are high quality, and meet expectations for the various groups we work with. Examples include delivering UI guidelines to Engineering that are easy to read or creating presentations/demos for Executives that help bring to life to a new technology.

In this position, you’ll join a cross-disciplinary team of product managers, designers, user researchers, writers, data scientists, and software engineers to help users become more aware of and proactive about their health. Day-to-day tasks will include working on innovative health applications, from concept to launch, using industry standard design tools to create wireframes, workflows, prototypes, and animations, as well as user-interface guidelines for software engineering.

The ideal candidate must be able to demonstrate using design thinking to create and develop detailed workflows, wireframes, and visual designs using different design systems depending on project type (Samsung Health, Bio-Marker Research, Medical Device). This candidate also has experience leading or mentoring other designers, as well as giving presentations to various project stakeholders.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Lead the design group (part of larger UX team). Work with the UX team manager in prioritizing design work and allocating appropriate resources.
  • Provide timely and useful feedback to ensure all designs from the design group are high quality, and help team set realistic design milestones to ensure on-time delivery of agreed upon deliverables.
  • Help design team provide intuitive and creative solutions for complex design problems.
  • Advocate for the UX team’s iterative approach to building products or updates to products.
  • Lead creative and holistic thinking across diverse products, software releases, platforms, and devices.
  • Play a key role in the interaction and visual design of Samsung products’ language and patterns.
  • Contribute individual work.

Experience requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree, Master’s Preferred in related field or or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
  • Previous managing and/or mentor experience
  • 10+ years’ experience in product design in consumer apps
  • Demonstrated experience advocating for the design group
  • Ability to build trust among design members
  • An online portfolio demonstrating direct involvement in end-to-end design process
  • Very strong visual design skills
  • Ability to work iteratively and comfortably sharing in-progress work with multiple stakeholders
  • Self-motivated, organized, detail-oriented, and results-driven
  • Proficiency in design and prototype tools, such as Sketch, Figma, Invision, etc., including applying visual design elements such as typography, illustrations, and interactions; and managing libraries
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Experience building smartwatch and mobile phone apps. Software as a Medical Device (SaMD) experience is a plus.
  • Direct hands-on building and scaling design system/guidelines.
  • Motion/animation skills.
  • Experience working with cross-functional stakeholders such as Engineering, User Research, Writing/Content Strategy, and Product Management.
  • Product Design thinking and fluency in best practices for information architecture, interaction design, user-centered design process, and strong knowledge of user-experience principles and techniques.
  • Familiarity with designing for accessibility and older adults.
  • Experience managing other designers.

The base pay range for roles at this level is listed below, but may be higher or lower in other states due to geographic differentials in the labor market. Within the base pay range, individual rates depend on a number of factors—including the role’s function and location as well as the individual’s knowledge, skills, experience, education and training. This is part of our comprehensive compensation package with annual bonus eligibility and generous benefits to help you live life well.
