Specific Job Duties:
- Main job function is to provide legal support for all types of labor and employment issues relevant to SAS business, and to manage disputes and litigation related to employment.
- Review and develop employment policies and procedures to ensure legal compliance with federal, state and local laws.
- Support internal company investigations related to employment.
- Support internal company investigations related to employment.
- Manage all disputes and litigation including responding to complaints, demand letters, and administrative charges; participate in mediations, arbitrations, administrative hearings and litigation; and manage outside counsel as needed.
- Manage and coordinate discovery including preparing interviews, arranging depositions, assisting with interrogatories, and document productions.
- Summarize and report on status of pending litigation, mediations, arbitrations and hearings.
- Create corporate policies on document retention with an eye towards potential litigation.
- Draft executive employment agreements and severance agreements.
- Prepare and present training materials on employment and labor issues to HR and leadership.
- Identify gaps in legal compliance and recommend remedial measures, best practices, and other action items necessary to improve compliance
- Review and report on labor and employment related statutory and regulatory developments.
- Provide other legal support services as required.
Shift: 1st -Shift, Mon - Fri, 8am-5pm.
Skills and Qualifications:
Education, Training, Certification(s) and Minimum years of experience required:
- JD from an accredited US law school
- 7 or more years of experience in large law firm, boutique labor and employment law firm, or in-house as a labor and employment attorney
- least 3 years of experience in litigation,
- Experience with traditional labor relations issues
- Must be a member in good standing with the State Bar of Texas.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Software, and Tools
- License to practice law in Texas required.
- Integrity and strict confidentiality.
- Working familiarity with MS Word, MS Excel, Adobe Acrobat, and electronic document management systems.
- Knowledge of Texas and Federal laws and regulations related to employment law issues and traditional labor relations issues.
- Excellent legal and non-legal written and oral communication skills
- Ability to distill legal issues for management and executives
- Self-starter with the ability to work well both independently and in groups.
- Well organized and unfazed by a dynamic and fast-paced work environment
- Ability to supervise other attorneys (outside counsel), enforcing high standards for work product and good billing practices
