The Quantitative Analyst at Samsara will focus on extracting insights across various functions (finance, operations, engineering, product, sales) through database management, ETL, statistics, and distributed and parallel systems. Depending on the problem, work will include writing API calls, constructing data pipes / ETL, data analysis, building dashboards, and presenting work to executive stakeholders. You will be working with finance to build tools that can inform product and engineering decisions. This is a full-time position at our office in our SF HQ and includes $200 Lyft/Uber commuter benefits each month; stock options; up to 4% 401(k) match; catered lunch and dinners four days a week; and 100% coverage on medical, dental, and vision benefits.


  • Build scalable, internal solutions that automate data mining, extraction, and generation of key insights using any combination of APIs, third-party software, cloud services, scripts, or connectors

  • Leverage statistical, machine learning, and other techniques to model how business drivers will change over time

  • Build dashboards for executive presentations, KPI tracking, and/or financial modeling

  • Maintain + develop outputs such that stakeholders in product, engineering, finance, operations, and sales can easily & reliably identify performance metrics 

  • Work with cross-functional teams and manage multiple projects according to stakeholder timelines

Required Qualifications

  • BS degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics, Engineering, or Applied Maths

  • Experience with Python, SQL, and R

  • Knowledge of statistical techniques (e.g. multivariate regression, clustering, ANOVA, affinity)

  • Knowledge of probability theory (e.g. Bayesian Stats)

  • Knowledge of writing API Calls (REST or SOAP) 

  • Knowledge of database construction & management and ETL 

  • Good sense of business intuition, problem solving, and strategic decision-making

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics, Engineering, or Applied Maths

  • 2+ years working in finance, analytics, data science, or engineering at cloud-based company

  • Experience with a variety of object oriented programming (e.g. Java, Ruby, C++)

  • Experience with advanced statistical tools (e.g. SPSS, SAS)

  • Experience with business intelligence tools (e.g. Tableau, Looker, Microsoft BI)

  • Experience with connectors and/or advanced analytics platforms (e.g. Informatica, Hevo, Alteryx, IBM Infosphere, Oracle Data Integrator)

  • Experience with cloud services (e.g. AWS, GCP, Azure)

  • Experience with SaaS platforms (e.g. Salesforce, Netsuite, Zendesk, JIRA)

  • Knowledge of financial accounting
