Manufacturing Design Engineers are responsible for coordinating suppliers and verifying quality standards in accordance with the requirements of their organization. They are in charge of performing regular supplier audits to ensure compliance with regulatory standards, as well as actively participating in strategic development based on quality control plans. They manage the supply chain, serve as the liaison for suppliers, suggest structural quality and process improvements, and collaborate with other engineers in a team environment.
Additionally, Manufacturing Design Engineers identify technical problems with suppliers and implement corrective actions. They also increase quality reliability, use their engineering skills to execute tools for calibration systems, and regulate product transition requirements. Another principal tasks forManufacturing Design Engineers is to maintain accurate quality records, certifications, and database screens. They also conduct capability assessments that verify supplier qualifications, travel to assigned suppliers, and lead multiple projects to completion. These professionals also must manage process controls, establishing schedules for reviewing supplier and quality performance. In addition,Manufacturing Design Engineers measure readiness throughout the product development cycle.
A bachelor's degree in engineering is required for this position. Previous experience in a quality supervising capacity may preferred. They must be problem solvers who use their advanced analytical skills to find innovative solution to quality-related issues. They must also have strong communication skills to make progress reports and present their findings to the supervisor in their department. These professionals may work in an office environment or at a production site depending on the needs of their company.
