We are looking for an experienced and hands-on SVP of Engineering, that will build, lead and mentor the engineering team responsible for Sama products. Your primary responsibility will be to grow and lead a world-class AI engineering team, and ensure they have everything they need to be successful.

You will be part of the executive leadership team, reporting to the CEO, and will inform and align your teams around strategic decisions and ensure we are operating on the right principles, strategy, and roadmaps to build our product. In addition, you will manage budget, roadmaps, timelines, and overall execution in your team to ensure smooth collaboration.

Key Requirements

  • 12+ years of experience in software development and management for a high growth SaaS company ($50-200MARR)
  • 7+ years of successful leadership and people management experience and effectively mentoring senior leaders on management and technical tracks
  • Experience in machine learning
  • Managing teams of 50 to 200 engineers and researchers
  • Great record of building high-functioning teams and retaining the best engineering talent
  • Willingness to work in a fast-paced startup environment.

Location

This position would ideally be based in Montreal to allow for in person collaboration with our Engineering Team  leadership, and could also be based in the San Francisco Bay Area to allow for collaboration with CEO and product leadership, but is ultimately location flexible, and can be based anywhere in the continental United States.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the company’s technological development
  • Engage with key business stakeholders to set the strategic direction of the product offerings. You will report directly to the CEO
  • Develop strategic plans and set timelines for evaluation, development, and deployment of full-stack engineering solutions. Execute on strategy and deliverables
  • Ensure technology standards and best practices are met
  • Build Sama’s end to end AI platform using a customer-driven development approach
  • Monitor analytics and make recommendations that align with business goals
  • Recruit, build and retain world-class technology talent in multiple locations and define a best-in-class culture for innovation and delivery
  • Engage with the investment community and demonstrate clear ability to articulate and evangelize ROI of product road maps and business objectives to investment analysts
  • Actively participate in the corporate development process by evaluating potential acquisitions and expansion efforts; work on integrating companies, products, and team members after acquisition and/or on entry into new markets
  • Studying current and new industry trends, technologies, and software development
  • Ensuring the company’s technological processes and service comply with all requirements, laws, and regulations

To be successful in this role, it would help if you have:

  • Experience building and scaling products within a B2B, SaaS environment.
  • Track record of building high functioning, distributed teams. Global experience is preferred but not required.
  • Experience and understanding of API architecture and best practices.
  • Experience with product led growth
  • Full-cycle product development experience.
  • Preferred experience with data labeling, data preparation and ML development
  •  Preferred experience with some or a majority of the following technologies:
    • Front End: Angular and REACT
    • Back End:  Ruby on rails, Kubernetes, Argo, Heroku, Docker
    • ML: Python, AWS EC2
    • Data: Internal data lake + Looker FE
    • Serving infra: NGINX, AWS Cloudfront
    • Storage: AWS S3, AWS Volume
    • CI/CD Pipeline
    • Familiarity with security requirements, such as security operations center (SOC) or information security management (ISO)
  • Experience leading Agile/Scrum teams
  • Experience in departmental planning, strategy, development, and budgeting
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field. Master’s Degree in CS, IT, related field, or Business preferred.
  • Willing and able to travel as needed
