Your role in our mission

We’re looking for an exceptional leader to be our Lead Data Product Manager. Reporting to the Head of Strategy and Data Product, you will play an instrumental role in transforming Salary Finance into a data-led business.

What you'll do

The current state of SF’s data landscape is:

  • Data is not always reliable and readily available - which makes it harder than necessary to understand how we’re performing
  • Our centralised BI team services data requests from the rest of the business, and is becoming a bottleneck as we grow
  • Our Data Governance is not in great shape, which leads to inconsistency and confusion
  • We don’t have the right visualisations and data assets in place to allow our colleagues to self-serve their data needs
  • Our technology needs a refresh if we want to fulfil our ambition of becoming a data-led company

Our plan to address these challenges is to:

  • Think of data as a product: our aim is to produce data products that add value for our SF colleagues and partners, and will ultimately enable a much higher level of self-service
  • Move to a decentralised model with clear ownership of the data at source - aligned with where we create value as a business and where we deliver good outcomes for our customers
    • Think Data Mesh (without getting too theoretical about it!)
  • Drastically improve our Data Governance to give us better controls and insight into our data
  • Iterate towards a new technology solution that can scale with our future needs

Your role will be crucial in our journey to achieve these outcomes:

  • You’ll be our champion for embedding product thinking in the way that we do data at Salary Finance
  • You will be leading our team of Data Product Analysts, helping to shape their roles and responsibilities and grow the team’s capability over time
  • Ensuring that we’re driving continuous / iterative improvement in building out strategic data capabilities
  • Keeping the data end user front and centre and ensuring that we deliver value for them
  • Creating and maintaining a data roadmap for each data domain - engaging and aligning with key stakeholders along the way
  • Maintaining high quality standards in the team’s coding, documentation and data visualisation work

About you

This is a primarily leadership role. On this front, we want you on our team if:

  • You have experience of leading a team
  • You have a growth mindset
  • You know what good looks like in the data product world
  • You are a strong communicator and you love working with and influencing a large number of stakeholders
  • You don’t settle for half-baked - you set high standards and you’re always pushing for continuous improvement

You’ll also be doing some of the doing across a number of data domains - supporting team members to produce the best possible outcome. On this front, we want you on our team if:

  • You know how to get to the bottom of a business requirement and you can develop a solution that is tailored to the end user
  • You love analytical problems and have a knack for solving them
  • You understand what good looks like in a modelled data set
  • You know how to write excellent SQL code
  • You love producing insightful and compelling data visualisations
  • You can produce clear and concise documentation

This will not be an easy role - we’re looking for someone who is excited about the challenge of building a team and growing Salary Finance into a company with a world-class data capability.
