What do Team Leaders do?

Harness the skills of Kiva’s dedicated volunteers through an innovative crowdsourcing model

  • Provide motivation and leadership to team members to keep loans flowing from the field to the Kiva website

  • Support a diverse and multicultural community of volunteers located across the globe

  • Foster connection between the volunteer community and Kiva headquarters

Act as a first line of support for our editors and translators to keep Kiva’s processes efficient and sustainable

  • Craft customized updates and develop creative approaches to strengthen team engagement

  • Maintain regular email contact with team members to field basic questions, provide guidance, and solve problems

  • Promote the use of Kiva’s loan review resources and escalate policy and technical questions to Kiva staff

  • Monitor team productivity

Help shape the future of the volunteer loan review program at Kiva

  • Exchange ideas and perspectives with other team leaders and Kiva staff in regularly scheduled conference calls

  • Help develop, document, and share best practices for team leaders

Successful candidates will have these essential skills and qualities:

  • Proficient in English

  • Can commit 4-6 hours a week for 13 months, including availability for approximately 3 conference calls per year with fellow Team Leaders and/or Kiva staff

  • Is a strong communicator and supremely organized

  • Can forge effective working relationships with colleagues they've never met; is comfortable providing feedback and instruction over email

  • Enjoys working collaboratively in a team environment

  • Enjoys establishing and reaching targets, both for themselves and for their team

  • Has mature judgement and can work with little supervision

  • Is comfortable with internet, email, and basic office applications and software, such as word processing and spreadsheets; regularly checks and responds to emails

  • Is able to abide by calendared appointments and consistently meets deadlines

  • Location: Anywhere, but can occasionally accommodate conference calls where differing time zones are prioritized

  • This is a remote volunteer opportunity

With experience/skills in at least one of the following:

  • Managing volunteers

  • Working with or managing geographically distributed teams

  • Spanish, Russian, French, or Portuguese translation (not required, but a plus)

Please note:

  • You must be at least 18 years of age to apply.
  • The online platform Kiva volunteers use is not mobile or tablet-friendly, so volunteers must have a personal computer.
  • You will sign a volunteer agreement that covers protecting the privacy of Kiva borrowers as well as a standard media release.
  • This is a remote volunteer opportunity
