Software Developer – Salary Dependent on Experience

Are you a passionate web developer in the making, aspiring to build products and tools that make life easier for your colleagues in the room next-door through to the thousands of kids and parents who interact with our services every week?

We’re the largest rock school in Europe, and we’re looking for another web developer to join our digital team working from our HQ in Liphook. This is a chance to write code that will have a positive impact on the changing face of music education in the UK.

We might not look like a tech company, but this is a great place to work as a developer. Our tooling and processes have been built from our collected experience working in big tech companies, so you get the benefits of industry level best practice while working in a small, personal, collaborative team environment.

The Role

The role is to work as a full-stack web application developer on internal facing tools used by the Rocksteady team, and external facing products used by our customers and the general public.

Our product roadmap for the year ahead is currently full, and there’s lots more we’d like to build, so we’re on the lookout for an additional team member.

For experienced candidates, you will be pleased to know that we:

  • Use modern-but-well-established tools (React, React Native, Ruby on Rails 6)
  • Run a continuous integration (CI) and deployment (CD) process
  • Have good tests and code coverage
  • Run code reviews for all work
  • Have minimal DevOps requirements (managed via Heroku and AWS)
  • Do sprint planning, and manage a product backlog with as little admin as possible
  • Work in a lovely office twice a month, with quiet space to focus, and a lake to sit by if you ever experience “Error: -41”

Skills and Experience

  • 2+ years industry experience
  • Motivated to build products and tools that make users lives easier
  • Confident with web application development (JavaScript, HTML and CSS)
  • Familiar with relational databases and SQL
  • Proficient in Ruby and JavaScript
  • Have worked on software projects as part of a team (source control, code reviews, issue tracking etc)

Benefits

We ensure you work in an environment where staff are motivated and passionate about the work they are doing. We offer you the opportunity to grow and develop with the business.

  • A full-time salary position working daytimes during the week with 25 days annual leave plus bank holidays
  • Our office is a beautiful, converted manor house in rural Hampshire with vast grounds complete with its own lake, orchard and plenty of on-site parking
  • Fun – through annual staff away-day, Christmas party and opportunities to socialise with other like-minded and passionate individuals throughout the year
  • The chance to provide a quality experience to our customers all over the UK
  • Opportunities to work with the Rocksteady Foundation
  • Bonus scheme and company performance-based rewards
